Location DB > United States > California > Berkeley > Bevalac Synchrotron > External Proton Beam Hall is gone > Far view

1 / 11   Far view

Description
The empty area in the middle field of the photo is where the External Proton Beam Hall used to be. The domed building you see at the top of the photo is the Advanced Light Source: one of the world's first third-generation synchrotrons. The ALS is capable of generating light (in the X-ray portion of the spectrum) a billion times brighter than the sun.

Nope, no problems, it's just light - really bright light, but light nonetheless. The fact that it's brighter just means that there's more photons. Along with all the photons, you do get some additional radiation (bremsstrahlung), but this is shielded against. Check out http://www.lbl.gov/MicroWorlds/ALSTool
