Why DO they do that? The Pines Hotel has several fans that have just "given up".

These were actually "broken" where the blade meets the fan itself. I think the ones at the Pines are due to water leaking down onto the wood and making them bend. All in all they're neat to look at and ponder.

they probably are sleeping because noone's there.

In these fans, it normally not 'wood' that's used for the blades but laminated MDF board - which gets wet and sags.

Further - on fans missing a blade (like this one) the weight on the centre bearing causes it to fail and bend inward; as seen here.

It's a worry!

  It's the lazy fan epidemic...

The blades are actually plywood. If they were MDF, they would definitely warp and sag. With many Hunter ceiling fans such as this one, the motor screws would get loose, thus causing the blades to droop like that. Also, the fnas seen here are actually from the mid 1990s, meaning the park must have closed at a much later date than what is currently listed.

Maybe you should post a topic in the Main forum called "Ask me anything about ceiling fans."

It's the latest fad!

  Yes. My point exactly.
