A real find: a floral detail. Probably a master or architect showing his workers how to make the pattern with a compass. There are several attempts in different sizes. This is round the back, so they were probably using the building's exterior itself to practise! How strange.

Perfect spot to practice. The stucco (assuming it was to be stuccoed) would easily cover the marks.

This seems to have been done on stucco already. You can see bare stone/cement where the stucco's fallen off.
Extrapolating from modern practises, I'm assuming there'd be a second layer over the first one. THAT would have hidden the marks.
