Old Carr Ranch

In October of '05, I got a tip from a new member of UER. He said that he lived in or near Abbott, TX and that he knew of a place where there was an entrance to Balcones Fault and that legend had it that runaway slaves hid in the cave at one time. That was sufficient for me, Noah Vale and Maroast to head down to check it out. When we got to Abbot, we stopped at a service station for drinks. Being the "hide in plain sight/ WTF are you lookin' at/ That's right, I'm takin' pictures/ Oh yeah? What are YOU doin' here?..." type of guy I am, I asked the clerk with the full sleeve tats if he knew where the place was.No sense bein' all sneaky and wasting all day lookin' for it ourselves. Sure enough, he'd been there as a kid and gave us good directions. We found the place and I set a rope and climbed down. It wasn't very big, maybe 15 feet down at the entrance and a few hundred feet long from blocked end to blocked end but it was still pretty cool. We caught a little Blue Racer that kept biting me while I was trying to get it to pose for NV and then we checked out the burned out house that once was Old Carr Ranch. Lots of artifacts and we had a good time pokin' around down there.
