The property was designated under the Ontario Heritage Act by the City of St. Thomas.

On August 21, 2006, the City of St. Thomas Council denied the demolition permit application for Alma College.
The owners appealed Council's decision to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB). The OMB will hold a full hearing in October 2007.
