Exploring the winery

Every summer, my family (extended family too!) heads up to Kelleys for a week or so of camping and relaxing. And now, for me, exploring. My first time staying on the island was last year, and I got taken on the nickel tour of the island. Along the way, I noticed the ruins of a building in the woods, and asked about it.

Turns out it used to be the Monarch Winery. There are also two other wineries in the woods spread out around the island, one can be seen from the road, the other is hidden. I didn't have any time for exploring last year as I only had a day up there, but I vowed to check them out.

This year's vacation came around, and I'd almost completely forgotten about my quest for the hidden wineries. Until my cousin Josh and I were out for a bike ride and were going past these ruins. I ran back to camp to grab my camera and we hurried for some shots, since it was later in the afternoon and getting darker by the minute.

We parked our bikes and ran through the woods, coming across some weird equipment and barrels along the way. I stayed in view of the bikes while my cousin ran the length of the deteriorating wall to get the back shots of the winery. Meanwhile, I explored the remains of the inside.

All in all, the pics are decent at best. It was getting dark, and the bugs were eating us alive. I will get to this again, hopefully before next year's vacation, and I will also get to the other two abandoned wineries.
