Stinky explore

The other day, I decided to show this tunnel to a friend, upon getting close to the entrance, we started to smell the overwhelming stench of raw sewage. This tunnel has never smelled like that any other time I've been down in it, it usually smells like a combination of creek and cave. We decided to try and brave it, but upon reaching the part that used to be the Campbell Ave bridge, my friend started getting sick and we had to leave. Upon exiting, we noticed white scum around the water, and figured that during the recent flooding in the past months, the sewer which runs under the tunnel likely overflowed and dumped raw sewage into the creek, or possibly there is a broken pipe.

I am writing this mainly as a safety note, as sewer gas contains hydrogen sulphide, which is the rotten egg smell. this gas can be dangerous at high concentrations (and flammable), and without a device to test the concentrations, you don't know what you are getting into. I'm going to wait a few weeks and see if it is still like that, but this time, the smell of crap was too strong!
