The Machinery Tunnel3rd February 2002

When I explored this tunnel up on the second floor I had no torch. I just aimed the camera at interesting looking shadows and hoped for the best. I was concentrating on the dimly lit floor, watching for holes. Most of these scenes I saw for the first time when I got home and uploaded them to my computer.

Looking west down the passage all I saw was the light at the end. I saw not even this. My eyes had not yet adjusted to the darkness.

I could barely make out a vague round shape of a blower fan there.

Chilled water pipes and blower fans

I thought the thing on the right was a small office. Guess not.

Not sure what these small doors in the wall are for.

Looking back the way I had come - east.

I glimpsed these pipes in the darkness, but not that gaping hole into a lower level.

Pipes and gauges. This image was taken in near total darkness.

Pipes, doors, light in the distance

Light was provided by this thing, looking straight up a ventilation tower.

Cage of some sort that held a tool room

Giant wheel thing, part of a rotary power converter I believe.

Ventilation hoses.

Light at the end of the tunnel. This is on the second story.

Looking east back up the passage.

I wonder what C2 is? Possibly Cyanide, which was being removed from the building. You can bet I washed off after leaving this place. I even washed my shoes.

By this time my eyes had adjusted to the darkness and on the way back I spotted this tool area. I closed my eyes during photographs to preserve my eyes and night vision.

Stairway to lower floor.

Water pump and strange little doors again.

Ceiling pipes

Another picture of the hoses and valves.

Cabinet

Bench in front of some office in the passage

This scene looks boring you might say. To me it was a worry. I could see the reflection of that silver thing there in the dimness. To me this appeared to be a hole in the floor, because all I could see was something that appeared to be on a level below me. Even the flash of the photo did not help. I walked very carefully past this even though I had photographed it on the first walk pass and not noticed it.

Strange floor markings leading back to the cafeteria area where I had entered this tunnel.
