| | | Posted by SaraBellum Aside from this example, could you provide others proving your point of UER being overmoderated? I'm really interested in examples where we stopped a valid, productive, exploring related conversation. Since this is, after all, a website about exploring.
| - The mod response to any thread that is even close to being about talking about ethics. Yes the topic is played out for 5+ year members here, but not everyone is a 5+ year member. This is a forum where people want to communicate. All the ethics threads are locked and new people to the site don't really get to express their opinion on the subject, only pointed to locked threads. Some recent ethic threads one's I've seen were very civil and had interesting points from fresh faces, but OMG it's ethics! - The amount of stuff that gets grouped into that evil 'politics'. Just like the example in this thread, Fedge's post has nothing to do with politics. That's like saying I'm related to Snoop Dogg because we both smoke pot. It doesn't make sense though, and either does some of UER's overzealous categorizations sometimes. The point of Other is to talk about 'other' things. I understand the desire for no politics/religion there. The serious politics debates happen in the politics board and everyone knows all about it. But occasionally there will be some non-controversial topics loosely (by that I mean not at all) related to actual politics debate posted. It's there' anything even close to mentioning government, but not specifically politics it's condemned. - The policy of allowing no duplicate posts at all, especially when the older ones are locked or archived. Much like my first point. New people to the site deserve to be able to participate too. Eventually ever topic on UER will be covered and people won't be allowed to post anything at all except for pictures eventually (obvious exaggeration). Other than those examples, that's all I can think of off hand. It's not like I document these or make a list anything. This forum is actually very small with say 20 users online on average. But it's moderated at the rate of a site with 1000 online users; site that are successful and not the train-wreck the UER mod squad is afraid of. Like I said there's a spectrum and moderation here can be laxed a little while not having the site turn to total anarchy or no longer being a productive environment.
