Took my son to an outdoor ceremony. He wore his Beaver Scout uniform. I wore the poppy he made in Kindergarten two years ago. It was cold and wet and a bit windy, but he did well, stood still, sang the national anthem, showed proper respect for the women and men in uniform.
He was also selected by his grade two class to lay a wreath.
I could not have been more proud of him.
I get terribly emo on Remembrance Day. So I'm standing there with tears streaming down my face as the Sea Cadet band plays Oh Canada, and I'm thinking of my grandfather who, at age 14, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1917, and I'm thinking of my grandfather and all the other kids who lied about their age and ran off to war.

My son dressed up in his full ROTC uniform for the first time. I nearly forgot how to tie a tie, until I quit thinking about it and let my hands remember the movements. Anyway he looked great. I couldn't make the ceremony due to work but he looked great and I was proud.
