That's what I thought, just wanted to clarify.
Why is marijuana not legal? Why is marijuana not legal? Its a natural plant that grows in the dirt. You know what's not natural, 80 year old dudes with hardons. Thats not natural, but we got pills for that. We're dedicating all our resources to keeping the old guys erect but we're puttin people in jail for smoking something that grows in the dirt. |

| | | As long as this site doesn't turn into a Pay-Per-View type of thing I think this system is a good idea. Just provides that extra little 'kick' to get people to donate. To bad I'm really cash strapped. Maybe when i get a job...

although i personally think it would be sad if it did, i think we should remember that this could happen and we wouldn't really have a choice on the matter. it's Av's site after all.

Yeah. I'd be curious to know... considering 90% of it probably comes directly out of your pocket. [last edit 6/26/2004 3:55 AM by tnarduzzi - edited 1 times]

| | | My hosting cost is about $130 US / month, plus some other fees. The site will never be pay-per-use unless things turn really ugly, and the "premium" features will always be just "add-on" features and not needed things. A $50 donation will entitle you to 1 month of premium, and so will a $5 donation. what i'm trying to promote is regular donations and not one-time large donations -av

| | | You should have a minimum of $5 a month, but if someone donates $50, they should get 10 months, unless they want to donate more per month. It would save a lot of time instead of paying five bucks each month. I would gladly donate $50 for 10 months at premium membership, but not if I had to mail you a $5 check every month. I don't imagine it costs more money to have a premium member situation set up on the server.

| | | Premium membership is really only through paypal -- I really don't want to get small cheques every month. If you don't have paypal, it means you don't have a bank account or a credit card and couldn't write cheques anyway.

I don't trust anyone with my money other than my bank... If I was going to donate money to you, I'd *only* use the Interac Email Money Tranfer feature of all Canadian banks... For a 1.50$ fee you can transfer money to anyone with a valid email and bank account just by sending an email though your bank's web-interface... No hassle, no fuss, easily done form anywhere in the world, no fees for the recipient, they just get an email... A quick Googling of "Interac email money transfer" and you can just click on your bank's instructions on how it works. Simple, instantaneous, cheap, and the only web-based tranfer that's possilbe without account details. Plus you can transfer without revealing your identity (the recipient only sees the nickname you choose for each tranfer). EDIT: Only catch is that it's a 10$ minimum fee [last edit 6/26/2004 9:50 AM by Beryl - edited 1 times]

| | | Hey Avatar, I don't see what the problem some people have with the added benefits you offer to them in the premium membership. They don't seem to appreciate your efforts. If i was able to donate to keep this site up and going, i would gladly do so. Where else can folks go to see pictures of historic places that would go unnoticed, or fade into oblivion. My hat is off to all of you for your pictures, and info. There are so many places that would go unnoticed if not for the members, and Avatar has made it possible for us to share it with the rest of the public.

| | | I think if you donate sporatically you should get the little gold cup icon people have been getting and keep that forever, and only the silver cup icon if you donate for more than three months ( or two months ) in a row. Some people cant donate everymonth, but should still be rewarded with the original star. but I think for the premium star you should have to at least go two months in a row.

P.S. I paid ya 10 greenback and i dont have a silver cup =P [last edit 6/26/2004 1:37 PM by Mike Dijital - edited 2 times]

We do so have a choice in the matter. If something svcks or is a rip off - don't use it. People will vote with their feet. The day UER.CA becomes 'Pay Per View' is the day that the Country 'Scotland' disapears from the ldb and a great many people leave. I kind of get the idea that Av would rather put papercuts into his lips and drink real lemonade than make uer 'Pay Per View' though ?? The way I see it this site was born out of and runs on the love of UE and the money aspect is purely to cover costs and not to post profits for shareholders!!
Chris...
We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

| | | turbo is exactly right Just to clarify: Anyone who donates any amount right now, will automatically get the gold cup, just like before. If the amount is over or equal to $5, they will also get the silver cup, and all the premium features for one month. If they do not wish to use the premium features, they do not have to. It's entirely optional. -av

| | | Do Mods get automatic 'Premium' status? I am not trying to start something for people to bitch about, I am just curious to know. Other than that I actually think this is a good idea to increase the incentive to donate... although it's not really donating if you are getting something elite in return for the money... but thats a different topic. And Av, I think we all owe you a big thanks, considering the quality and caliber of this site which is entirely created/paid for by you. Thanks.
