A different approach to UE Camouflage < on 9/15/2011 2:27 PM >
After a few successful trips over bridges and other structures, I want to share some ideas on my outfit for urban exploration. Unlike most of you (what I guess from reading the threat about cloths), I didn't went for dark blue or similar colors.
The idea behind it was, unlike wearing cloths that make you hard to see (dark blue, like most, or even military camo gear), I decided to wear cloths that people would either ignore or don't see as unusual at that location. I got that idea after I read in the newspaper about burglars, who dressed up as construction workers to steal equipment from an University while the real workers were renovating.

The cloths are easily available on line, and are very similar to the ones worn by roadworks and other construction crews. The first time I wore that for a reason was for a Geocache on a railway bridge, were several people reported that nearby fisher called the police when they saw someone trespassing on the bridge. When I went there, I too saw some fisher there, but instead of giving up, I just waved at them (and they waved back) and went on searching for the Cache (or for the rest, inspecting the bridge).
In any other cloths, they sure would have called the police. But like that, I pretty much belong there. Just think about it. When you see some people dressed as construction workers at an old building, do you think they are trespassing or do you think they are working there and don't bother?
After that, I started to wear them to most of my trips, and while I'm sure I've been seen by a lot a people, no one ever interfered with my explorations.
Are you a reporter? Contact me for a UE interview! Also not averse to the the idea of group/anal.

There is a great deal of research supporting your hypothesis.
mutantMandias may cause dizziness, sexual nightmares, and sleep crime. ++++ mutantMandias has to return some videotapes ++++ Do not taunt mutantMandias
mutantMandias is something more than human, more than a computer. mutantMandias is a murderously intelligent, sensually self-programmed, non-being

Yeah, if you just wear a hard hat, or an orange mesh vest or something (which you can get at Walmart for like, three bucks), nobody will suspect a thing. If anybody asks you, just say that you're -inspecting- a bridge (or drain or whatever). You won't be lying - you are there to look at the structure - but they'll buy it.

A great idea! Well done sir. Though as Mandias implies, the use of "credibility props" and disguises is pretty common on uer.
Now if only someone came up with a disguise that incorporates wearable lonely chairs and peeling paint.... Freedom breeds war; and Peace, slavery. So it shall be forevermore: Men who love freedom buy it with their lives, and lovers of peace with their freedom.
+1 on making it harder on you if you're caught. In many construction sites hi-vis, hard-hat, and khakis are better than going all-out as a fake electrician contractor. [last edit 9/17/2011 9:44 PM by AnAppleSnail - edited 1 times] Achievement Unlocked

A story I have to share from the weekend.
I went taking photos for an entry in the UE database in the usual outfit (see first post). On my way back, I came across a real crew of construction workers fixing a road. I guess they were just finishing for the day, since one of them got out a case of beer. When I waked past them, one of them greeted me, asked me if I was also done for the day, and a if I wanted a beer.
I do believe that people over here are friendly, but I think my outfit helped a bit. I'm surprised how well you do blend in with those cloths.

No law against wearing Hard Hats or Safety Vest. Just don't try to pass yourself off as more than an observer if challenged. Ezekiel 25:17

The orange pants seem to be going a bit far... I wouldn't necessarily wanna appear MORE ostentatious than a regular high-vis outfit a crew would wear.
I actually suggested this very idea to someone bitching about wanting to climb a crane but wouldn't man up to do it himself. Said, hey, wear orange and just blend in with the damn thing =)
There's another "different approach to UE clothing" that I saw on Youtube, I'll have to see if I can find it. Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

Aurelie says the youtube video I remember but can't find is by Rookinella. Her "explorer garb" was exquisite, and varied to the extreme.
If anyone knows where this video can be found, post it up! I can't find it. Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

And remember many times the super KNOWS who's suppose to be on HIS site. Being seen can help keep you from being killed but not necessarily caught.
Your security measures were inadequate. How unfortunate for you.

Posted by shotgun mario rooks the stripper? Last issue of El Draino had her topless, if you're interested (yes you are).
Er... yes, yes I am.
I'd still like to find that video of in her urbexin camo outfit. Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

I have an orange vest and hardhat in my UE closet just for this purpose. I explored an abandoned house along an extremely busy road and no one gave it a second thought.
Years ago when the City Center Mall in Columbus, OH was still open, I put on my blue coveralls, grabbed a dust mop from an unoccupied housekeeping cart and walked around the off-limits areas. I walked right past the security office, waved at the guy in there and kept going with no trouble. Exploring Ohio's Forgotten and Historical Sites https://www.OhioExploration.com

wait, so youre telling me ironic black band tshirts and short skirts and huge black knee high boots and chain wallets and dyed hair and nose rings and flannel and jean jorts etc make people stick out like sore thumbs while exploring? i just figured every explorer was in a band.
funny thing is, i tend to wear black(real BDU cargo clothes) everything, mainly cause i like the absence of color, not cause im deep. but the only issue i ever have is i come out covered in mud, dust, paint etc. and am the dirtiest person while exploring with my group. but then again i tend to get into my work and lay on floors and sit on asbestos chairs and in dirty tubs etc. shit i even get dirty when i dont do that stuff. its weird.
but i can see this being useful for a lot of the people who do construction sites and crane/tunnels. i have yet to explore any of those kinda sites. usually just hospitals and factories. so blending in isnt to necessary for me. http://www.newkirk.biz Canon 7D, XSi, 10-22mm, 18-55mm, 50mm F/1.4, 70-200mm F/4

Sounds like you're just an all around dirty person! =) Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

I would say that you wouldn't even really need to wear too much orange. Just a reflective vest and a hard hat. Jeans would be fine. Also a nextel will make you look legit.
Also the original picture sort of makes you look like an inmate. [last edit 12/18/2011 12:09 AM by Drake - edited 1 times]

Best of both worlds: Blue jumpsuit/coveralls. Less eye-catching than orange, but still passes for official-worker-garb. Add safety glasses perhaps. Dunno. I think I'd feel like a doofus walking around with safety glasses where they aren't needed. But a lot of places force you to. hmm...
