Nikon FE shutter issue < on 12/8/2011 10:25 PM > | Reply with Quote
Hey there, so yesterday I picked up a Nikon FE body from Goodwill for $5. When I bought it none of the shutter speeds worked except M90 and Bulb, I know that these particular Nikons take batteries to run, so I assumed that it just needed new batteries. Although after trying to put in new batteries it still doesn't work. When you press the shutter button on any speed other than M90 and bulb, the mirror goes up but the curtain doesn't do anything, the camera will not wind or anything until the shutter speed dial is set back to M90 or Bulb. So, any ideas about what is going on with it? It was only $5 so no big loss to me if nobody can figure out what is wrong with it.

I'm pretty sure that these had a mechanical shutter so I dont think that your problem is electrical. It might be a more complex mechanical thing, I'd say just snag a new one, they are usually pretty reasonable
If you're patient and want to take the time, try taking the camera apart and seeing if you can find something. You might as well
