All I know is you can't change others, you can only not be one of the people who do silly things like this.

I just remembered an x tried to do this once via text, well, he was acting strange, while I was at work no less. I told him if he had something to say to me then be at my place after work. It wasn't our end, but when that ending happened it was spectacular LOL.

Personal opinion - people can be quite cowardly these days. I guess a text/email breakup is better then someone just ignoring you thinking that will end things. People are funny. We'll make great pets.

I'm really sorry to hear this.

I've had just three girlfriends. The first one and I broke up in person, though she didn't really want to be there. I later found out from her that she'd broken up with me because she didn't know how to deal with a guy being nice to her, and that I was one of two boyfriends up to that point who'd treated her right. It made me sad that she was so used to getting smacked around that she couldn't handle anything else. Either the next boyfriend or the one after him was so rough that he dislocated one of her shoulders, but he was thankfully busted for assault.

The second girlfriend broke up with me in person during a surprise visit to her place, where I had to wait for her to get back, only to find out that she'd been dating one of her coworkers behind my back. He'd shown up with her and was the one who informed me of this, because she was too much of a coward. For someone who'd graduated cum laude from Fredonia with a degree in English and was fluent in French, she sucked at communication. I'd told her multiple times over the course of the relationship that I'd be fine with coming over and doing nothing other than discussing issues that she had with it, but she kept shooting down that idea. I find it worth noting that this happened almost exactly one week before the attacks on September 11, 2001.

My third girlfriend and I broke up over the phone, but that was done mostly due to logistics, as she lives about 1,000 miles away in southwest Missouri. We dated for 15 months, and I'd been set to move out there after my lease was up, but it just didn't work out. It hurt, but we were both respectful to one another, and there were no hard feelings. We still talk once in a while.

I've broke up with a girl via two way radio, on a net that had at least 200 people on it...
