X+X+X+X+X+X+X+These rules will strictly be enforced for the 2015 5th Cave Clan Short Film Festival X+X+X+X+X+X+
Please follow these 10 rules based on feedback gathered from previous short film festivals and short films in general.
The intention is not to tell you what to do or put you off doing a clip altogether, but to make the night more enjoyable for everyone.
1 Keep your film to a maximum of 5 minutes (if they must be any longer then make them two-parters). Videos that run over 5 minutes will either be edited, have footage sped up or not be accepted.
2 Pre-plan an idea on what you will be filming. Don’t just go to a location to shoot a random submission. Take someone along with you that is good in front of a camera.
3 Don’t submit clips that are only point-of-view single tunnel/location shots unless there’s plenty of changes or features or the clip is artistic.
4 Edit, cut and edit some more. You’re better off having a good 2 minute video than a boring 5 minute one.
5 Keep production moving along. Don’t shoot it and then leave the editing until the last minute when getting the short film festival up and running will already be crazy enough.
6 If you can’t edit the film or don’t have anyone to do it for you, you can send the unedited footage and the storyline (if there is one) to Doug. Email [email protected] for more information.
7DO NOT distribute your clip until after the Short Film Festival (this can be tough when the actual night may be many months away). Clips that have already been shown at Clan functions and distributed on a Clan DVD or put online will not be accepted.
8 Clan related videos are preferred, but UE in general is okay. Any non-UE non-Clan clips will not be accepted unless they include Clan members such as >The V Clip and The VB Clip<.
9 Keep the C/C Short Film Submissions thread on CCF up to date with the status of your clip (pre-production/post production/completed/submitted).
10 Use standard filming techniques; keep the camera steady or on a tripod whenever possible; Film in lit up areas; if audio is important then make sure you can hear the subject; etc…

Re: A UER Video comp <Reply # 29 on 8/18/2013 9:50 AM >
A UER comp may need some extra rules (the Clan clips are only shown to members in the group so we have stuff that wouldn't be suitable for a UER Comp).
Should we set a deadline or should we just say once we have 25 shorts we will set a date and then chuck them all on Vimeo or YouTube (YouTube is good because you can do a PlayList which means viewers just need to click one link and see all the films in a row).
There's no point setting a strict deadline if we only get three clips... I suppose that's a point - who wants to submit a clip?
If we get 50 people saying yes then I can guarantee we'd be lucky to get 10 who actually follow through with it.
Another way to do it is that the clips are put on YouTube or Vimeo but hidden or password protected. Then on the day of the "screening" all the passwords and links are posted in a thread (you can check how many views each clip has had to make sure people aren't distributing the clip before the night (even though they could have the clip elsewhere).
Or do we just have a free for all - put your submission up whenever you like? It's different with the Clan one as we have gatherings around the country and it's more enjoyable if you haven't seen the clips before rather than having clips that have had 7,000 hits on YouTube.
Personally I'd rather the clips be uncirculated.
And do you allow people to submit a clip they made five years a go or do they have to be specifically for the UER Comp?
I think they should be. We could have a theme or a item that needs to be in each clip (maybe batteries falling out of a torch/flashlight... or something).
Obviously there are a lot of things you want to get sorted out first.

I'll definitely do whatever I can to help this thing along. Pretty much what you wrote out Dougo seemed to be most of the stuff we'd need to get figured out... a big one is should there be a deadline or should it be once we reach a certain number of submissions? I'd hate to make a deadline and only 2 or 3 videos come through then... But without a deadline people could also just say f it and not bother... Here are some of my ideas:
Categories for Best Cinematography Audience Choice (Maybe most votes/likes or something)
I like the idea of setting a deadline unless we can't reach our quota, then it will be extended.
We will need to gather up a panel of judges... probably should be people that are not entered in the competition? Or you just can't vote for your own maybe?
To prevent any cheats, we will need to set up a specific rule... I believe as you had said earlier all of the shorts must have a red ball, or a red balloon in it.
I'm still not sure what these prizes will be... maybe we can have a few badges designed and put next to that specific winners name or something? That seems to be the cheapest idea I can come up with, but not sure how much work that involves so feel free to shut that one down.
