| | | Posted by Jonsered I do find it interesting that most Americans assume Canadian firearms ownership is basically impossible. I know several Americans that take guns to Canada for big game hunts, but apparently think Canadian citizens can't do the same.
| It was pretty easy so far. You take the courses and you pass the tests, or just challenge the tests without the course. Pass the course(s), find two references to sign your papers, fill out your papers and send them in. Over the course of the next two months they call my references and spouse (partner, common-law, whoever I live with) and make sure I'm not crazy or dangerous. Once my PAL card arrives, I can buy non-restricted rifles all day long and no one will know but the retailer. I need a Hunter Safety Course/Card to hunt with my rifles. They've gotta be stored at home unloaded, with a lock, or with the bolt removed, or locked in a secure case. Personally, I'll double lock everything until I'm equipped to fasten a cabinet to a wall stud. I can display them using the same three methods, I just have to keep the ammo elsewhere and/or lock it up. With my PAL, I can buy restricted firearms too, like pistols. Can't really have it anywhere but inside my home and at the range. A to B and back. No stopping for groceries. They've gotta be stored at home unloaded, rendered inoperable (trigger/cable lock) and locked in a secure case or locked in a vault or safe room specifically built for firearm storage. I can display them on my walls if they're cable locked to wall studs and ammo isn't present. I have no interest in restricted right now. Just a big, cheap, boom-stick til the right gun comes along. The Mosin guy at work says he's been hiding a rarer 91/30 for a customer he hasn't seen since October, so I might just grab that when the papers come through. Process Update #1: After I submit this, I'm taking clippers to my hair and then going to Walmart for mugshots before or after I run around the city collecting reference signatures for my application. My references are my sister and a friend I go way back with who I work with. So three stops, maybe four and I'll have everything I need to drop it in the mail tomorrow.
