| | | I'm a long-time explorer, new member. My general uniform for exploring has been: - Good solid shoes that cover the foot entirely: workboots are a good choice, but I personally prefer converse 'cause they've got a thick sole but they're otherwise lightweight and help with stealth (I am very, very small). - Thick, dark trousers: denim is the obvious choice but linen and canvas are equally serviceable. Yoga pants or tights might allow more freedom of movement but won't protect you from the environment you're in. - A light-weight tank or tee, in a dark colour. For my fellow ladies, a supportive bra 'cause shit can get athletic. - A fitted hoodie in a dark colour that zips up the front. Personally I prefer fitted 'cause it helps me keep a more accurate awareness of my size in space (I always imagine myself as larger than I am - again, I am *very* small), and the zipper up the front allows me to cool down quickly, as needed. - Gloves: you can never go wrong with gloves, even if all you've got is a pair of winter driving leathers. These will save your hands from getting torn up. - A flashlight, and try to get coloured lenses for it. A blue lense on a flashlight will allow you to use it with more subtlety in riskier situations. - Camera: I only ever carry a compact (mine is a trusty fuji X20) - no lenses to worry on, thus no extra bulk. - A utility knife. I've used this to dig glass out of my knees, poke stuff, get out of tight spots, and fix my camera (to name a few things). - a scarf: can be used as a dust protector, something to keep you warm, a pillow to roll & rest your head for a bit, etc. I carry a scarf everywhere, and exploring is no exception. - Extra batteries, and backup for your extras. 'cause everything dies *right* when you don't want it to.
