| | | Apart from the issue with underage explorers, I think that having exploring partners with the same focus and mindset is far more important than age. If you are into photography, teaming up with other photographers is much more enjoyable for all involved. If you are into higher, deeper, faster, scarier, then a group of newbies or photographers might not make for the best trip for you. As a mine explorer, I see the variance of explorer personalities. Some want to touch the wall of the furthest stope as quickly as possible, while others want to dig around in piles of rubble to see what they can find. And as always, the photographers want to photograph. It's all good so long as the teams have the same focus. Oh yeah, agree about alcohol and/or drugs ahead of time. It can absolutely ruin a trip. | | | As long as the person is over 18 and willing to take on full responsibility for their well-being, I have no issues. Of course, I would rethink it if they appear to be an irresponsible explorer in general. Minors are a big no, because I would not like even the slightest risk of endangering them. Posted by A Through Z Explorations Exploring with minors? My "professional" answer is no. My honest answer is "yes", but ONLY with my family (as I've done in the past). My 2 oldest sisters (I'm the oldest of four children/one is 19 and the other is 14) go with me on exploration adventures. We have it all worked out if authorities show up: The youngest one will take the blame, meanwhile, my 19 y/o sister and I are the ones "out looking for her because she's acting up, having a fit, and going down the wrong path in life. We're trying to bring her back home."
| Okay, that is pretty slick on your part, and I applaud your ingenuity.

I don't think so because they are going to do it either way, so I would rather be there to protect them from any potential harm and dangers that can arise from UE.
| That's pretty smart. When I explore with anyone in general, we tend to have a thing where one of us pretends to not speak english and the other one is mentally handicapped. My little really gets into the retarded roll, people would be surprised how fast cops back away when someone is speaking broken english and the other is drooling, speaking gibberish, and trying to pull their pants down to pee on the nearest tree/wall. You've got awesome siblings.

| Hey, Flashy, to each their own! I DON'T think that would work out very well here in Texas, then again, we are a friendly state. I have, however, heard that you "cannot" get arrested if you're drunk while having to "I really need to go poop, Ociffer[sic]. Does your police car have 2 ply toilet paper?" I hope we explore together one day when I return to California, or if you make it to the South first

| Hahahaha I just imaged someone trying to pull down their pants while pretending to be drunk. That's pretty funny, but I'd assume Texas would just shoot anything that moves at that point. I think if I tried that here in California I'd be taken in for a drug test. Same to you! If I ever am your way, I'll let you know. Flattered you'd want to explore with me

| | | Explored more when I was under 19 than over 19. Started when I was 15 years old, went to Toronto meet ups. Not a lot of people asked my age, they just assumed I was older. So if you don't want to be responsible for minors, you should probably ask everyone their age, even if they are a girl! I'm 23 now, and explore way less now. Combination of being busy all the time, and less in the mood to sustain injury... Thanks to all the Toronto explorers who didn't ask! I remember being onsite while security circled the outside of an abandoned building we were all in. I was like "Oh, hah, you guys know I'm 16, right?". The plan was to enact the infamous "hide the minor if security or police" show up. Thanks. As for older, I love exploring with whoever will take me. Though I've been with some older people who would get tired out, not too much fun. I liked hanging out with the crazy 20 year olds who would climb stuff with me. I do not like exploring with minors, immature brats, or anyone willing to break locks and fuck around.

| | | I'm 41, and a good friend of mine is 22. Together we've been exploring a site repeatedly outside of Olds, Alberta, Canada. When we go, I don't feel it's a leader-follower thing at all. I would say that when a group of people goes, it's equal risk/responsibility all around. Chronological age shouldn't even come into the equation. What should come into the equation are things like ability, and a plan (such as everyone stick together, single file, etc). Phone numbers should be shared among everyone so that in the event of disaster (or inconvenience), everyone can co-ordinate as best they can.
