It's useful when shooting HDRs. Does no harm to have. In Canon's it's buried in the menu unless you bring to the "top".

I think it's definitely a nice feature to have, even if you don't use it much. Especially if your camera's dynamic range isn't great - you can bracket a highlight and a shadow exposure and merge them in post.
I mostly use the bracketing on mine shooting sunsets - even if I don't end up merging the exposures, it's nice to be able to quickly get a couple different exposure options when shooting in uncertain lighting conditions (like shooting against a setting sun with darker foreground objects).
