Posted by Tomtortoise Not a bad shoot for a standard house. The "The House In Ruins" was a nice touch. Do you have a small tripod or anything. You could definitely brighten up some of your pictures with a longer exposure, very hard to make out a lot in some of them.

These were actually taken on a tripod, but it was before I knew how to use the camera and controlled the photo's lighting and brightness by pointing the flashlight at the ceiling (can be seen in #4) for ambient lighting, then adjusting how long I had the flashlight on for. Once I turned it off we'd be in pitch blackness, so the camera would automatically run through a full 30-second exposure.
It was a hilariously inefficient method and I've since figured out how to adjust shutter speed and aperture.
Posted by deals you're right, the mix of intact versus destruction is paradoxical. and so much serendipity here! that bathroom is disgusting. as mentioned above, 'the house in ruins' is kind of hilarious, as is the set of handyman books. it appears to be the home of a hoarder. what did it smell like? it looks to smell musty. btw... your captions add a nice quirky flare.

It actually didn't smell bad, for the same reason it was so easy to get into. It was also DAMN cold though (January 3rd, after all!), so it was kind of hard to smell anything anyway.
