Worth is something determined by you, both in the definition and where the supposed property lies. If I came to the conclusion that I wanted to create a database entry, for whatever reason, and I wanted to evaluate whether or not a particular location would make a suitable entry then I would create the following litmus test for myself. Ask yourself: "Would adding this location enhance the life, experience, or meaning of either my life or the life of a theoretical version of me that would learn of the location through the database?" While obviously this little test is individualized to me, chances are I am not sooo uniquely special that what I find to have worth someone else won't either.

| | | This is interesting. Because I have wondered the same things, I poured my heart and soul into one particular location (2x knows, and several of the other mods who were kind enough to validate my location every time I made an update)(if you want to see: http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=32280) It drove me to get as accurate as I could because I knew its days were numbered. I scoured the web, sent away for information. Years from now people pry will not even know there was a building there. Maybe they will stumble on my entry and learn something. Never know. I would like to find more about the other buildings that were there and the fire that led to their demise. I pulled it all together with the intent that someone else wouldn't have to do all of the leg work. Ultimately, It is what you invest into it. I agree though I don't think its utilized like it was, with the advent of social media and the fact that I think there are just more people exploring now a days. It would be neat to see new contributions, updates to locations, and their status.

| | | Posted by ryan5685 What about adding locations that are questionable? I know of one location that used to be a hospital but most of it was demolished. There is still an underground tunnel or tunnel system that exists but the site is active and it would require picking a padlock to get in. Is that something worth adding? There is other stuff on there that seems less worthy but I know a lot of people don't support picking locks as thats an obvious B&E charge if you get caught.
| Why would anyone commit felony crimes for a hobby? If they did, what is their purpose to admit to doing so? Can you keep a secret? So can I... Posted by ryan5685
I’ve never picked a lock to get into a site, I’m just asking the question. I’m split on it though, I’ll give you that.
| So how long is a ball of string? Posted by ryan5685 I've been doing some digging since I got full membership on the DB and it's become pretty apparent that our database has fallen way behind over the years. Clearly, we aren't using it as much as we could. Could anyone help give me some insight as to why this is? Do we neglect it because we don't want other people to have our locations? Do we neglect it because nobody uses it so there's no point? Maybe simply because it's lacking in sites already so there are better ways to find places to explore? I'm doing my best to update the locations I've been to in an attempt to breathe a bit of new life into it. What are your views? I love UER I want our site to be as good as it can be.
| After reading your posts it reaffirms why I'll never post an existing site of worth on the DB even of it's locked up tight. I rarely look at the DB, and when I do it's more for the stories and pictures. Never used the DB to find a site. So my thoughts on this are straight line. The images people share here is generous enough. Many can figure out where it is just from that. If not they can PM that member or simply find one of the countless tens of thousands of sites that are out there. Or, PM me for the free blackhawk master map of all existing sites stateside.

Yeah I guess that's pretty fair. It's really just a matter of preference. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not split on using lockpicks, I'm split on whether I'm morally OK with people using them. I sure as hell am not going to prison no matter how cool the place is! I'd say for me it's really that I think people should make their own decisions but I also don't want people to get in trouble. It's tough for me to pick a side on whether to passively let people do that or try to actively prevent it. I also did post on here a few years ago about lock picking but I've given it more thought since then and I sure as hell am not getting arrested for B&E or possession of criminals tools.
| It's best not to bring up lp unless it's on that private board. Some do it as a hobby. As for B&E there have been members arrested for it by simply turning a door knob of an unlocked door. Laws vary by state. Houses tend to be high risk because it's personal. In truly abandoned structures arrests are rare...
