Awesome photos!
Kid stuff left in abandoned houses always makes me sad. What happened, you know?
I found a house one time that was abandoned full of kid stuff. Digging around, it looked like the parents had come into massive medical debt due to a couple of hospital stays for the kid's asthma. They left a lot. Looked like they may have fled their debt and disappeared.
Another house had kid drawings all over the wall. There were letters left from a father in jail to a mother. More letters from the father to the grandparents. What happened? Did the mom and grandparents run from the dad? Did they just want to move out of a house to a different location? But why wasn't the house sold if it was something simple?
It always gets me thinking.
My dad lived in Philly as a kid, and had to move to Florida in the middle of the night at some point. His parents apparently had built up a massive debt. He told me they shook him awake at the age of 11 and said - you have 10 minutes to grab what you want and get in the car. The next day they settled into a motel in Florida. He himself eventually wound up in Richmond, VA... and his family as a whole never returned to PA. The siblings and grandparents eventually settled full time in South Carolina.
My dad did take me and my brother, when we were young, up to his old neighborhood in Philly, but his house was no longer still standing. Makes me wonder if it stood abandoned and eventually got bulldozed. Who knows.
Regardless - cool post
