About half an hour from where I live there's a town named Amherstburg. It's got a population of 22,00 and according to the "crime severity index" it's one of the safest places to live in the country. There's only 2 locations (that I can see) on the DB. As some of you may know it's adjacent to Boblo Island and the remains of Boblo Island Amusement Park. Me and a buddy were planning on doing a day trip but when I called the ferry company to inquire they told me that the island is restricted to residents only due to covid.. (There's a small population living on the other side of the island.)
If anyone's been there relatively recently I'd love to see some pictures of what's left of the place. I'm definitely going when they open the island back up next year. The closest I've come to stepping foot on the island was checking out the abandoned pier on the mainland a few months ago:

There's another interesting location in Amherstburg that I stumbled across about 6 years ago before I knew that urbex was a legitimate hobby. It's the General Chemical Plant, or what's left of it. All I saw was a strange pumping station that I was told pumps salt water out of a lagoon to prevent it from contaminating the surrounding fresh water. I'm not sure if the lagoon is actually some sort of tailing pond from when the plant used to produce sodium chloride. Apparently as of 2019 the water purification building, an electrical sub-station, a storage building, and a rail warehouse still exist. When I was there in 2014 I didn't happen to see any of those. I know that most of the plant was torn down some time ago. I know that the site was up for sale in 2019 but I'm not sure if it was ever purchased. If any of this info is wrong then please set me straight, I'd love to know more. There isn't much of a write up on this place in the DB. Here's my pics of that pumping station thing:
