I spent a cool, sunny Sunday morning exploring this former middle school, which was built in 1930, added onto in 1968, and closed in 2010. The school district sold it at auction in 2019 and it has slid downhill since. Interestingly, as I researched this school, I found an article from three days ago about the neighbors concerned with squatters, illegal dumping, and crime. The school is also in a very visible place next to a freeway interchange in a large city.

9. One interesting thing about this school was that cinderblock walls had been erected between the 1930 and 1968 sections on the first and second floors.

15. I quickly found out why the second floor smelled faintly of smoke. There were two of these makeshift firepits made by squatters.
