| | | The last and only time I was caught I was a minor, and it did NOT look good bahaha. Allow me to tell the story because it's so wacky. TLDR: I was really dumb nerdy kid so I don't wanna be further reminded how stupid it was (I think we were all about 17), we straight up had a machete and a barbed wire bat, we met a FAMILY with KIDS that were also exploring there, and we did NOT get in any trouble. My 2 friends and I had impulsively decided within the same day to drive several hours up to Cleveland Ohio after hearing about a whole abandoned town up there that supposedly held 'spooky cultist meetings. Us dweebs brought a machete and a homemade barbed wire bat for self defense bahaha. We got to a no trespassing gate, and started on a small hike to this supposed town. Just a few minutes in, we saw a flashlight coming towards us. Oh no, cultists! They got closer and it ended up being a couple with 2 kids! They said they explore this place like every other year together (GOALS!) and we explained our dumb story why we had the weapons and ended up exploring as a group! We took a trail in the woods that led to one of the most famous sights there, an old barn with a noose in it. We saw it then started heading further down the path, and that's when we heard a police horn. It turned out the place was rigged with all kinds of motion sensor cameras, we could actually see some kind of infrared light flash on one of our cameras that was positioned just above the entrance of an abandoned house. We started to head back, friends insisted that we dispose of our weapons. They threw theirs in a bush. I kept mine in hand to just be as honest as possible because the likelihood was they already saw we had weapons on the camera. When we got to the police car waiting for us next to our car, they inquired about our weapons, and said trying to throw away the other weapon was 'disposing of evidence' and would get us further in trouble. He gave us a chance to go back and find it. I by some miracle found it in the tall grass when I felt it with my foot. After waiting there for what felt like forever, we were let off with warnings, most likely because we were minors. They kept the weapons and said we could return to the police station the following day to retrieve them. Obviously we didn't care about them that much and we weren't spending the night so now the Cleveland police have a machete and spiked bat in their arsenal. the end.

| | | Different places have different rules. For example, trespassing on a construction site in Florida is a state felony. Be white, be polite, or don't be seen. These each help. Once I was stopped by 5 police forces at once. I was on a new parking garage on new year's eve taking fireworks pictures. Someone saw "a guy holding a gun" on a rooftop at night. Tip: black metal tripods look intimidating. "Special capitol," county, city, state, and some other group each had a squad car, and they zipped up the parking garage ramps. I heard them and saw the lights and stood still. They did the "half circle of cars shining spotlights at a suspect" and I stood really still. They did the usual check for weapons, tagging tools, and vandalism. They took my wallet for me out to check my ID (papiers, bitte).

| | | I went to jail for three days, got bonded out, and was on bond for a full year before being placed on two years deferred probation. All for an abandoned house in a suburb in Dallas. I was charged with class A misdemeanor trespass, and the DA gave me the maximum penalty possible. My conditions included theft intervention classes (i guess they didn’t have any trespassing intervention classes available), a drug/alcohol assessment community service, promise to destroy my photos I had taken (I did not do this one) as well as any other media, and monthly reporting, and some other stuff I can’t remember - not to mention thousands of dollars in fines. It was great times. I had no record and only was charged with trespassing, btw. My story is definitely not common, but it can happen! Did I learn my lesson? Nope. Here’s the horrifying details and back-story if interested: https://www.uer.ca...rrpage=1&pp#post19 I’ve been caught lots of times but aside from a ticket at the Baker Hotel, and a couple well-armed property owner confrontations, the nightmare I just described was my only serious legal snafu. Edit: Oh, shit, I totally forgot about this one: https://www.uer.ca...=121385&currpage=3 Oh, and I had my car towed once. That was a bummer. At first I thought someone stole it. All alone, middle of the night in BFE nowhere. After banging on the front door of an active prison and speaking with an asshole prison guard, I was able to negotiate a ride into town (long story, but this one really sucked too). Damn, I guess I had blocked a few of these out, lol.

| | | Not too long ago me and 10 others (I won't mention their names) got arrested for exploring a storm drain near a waterworks plant and it went under a massive railroad yard. We popped a manhole cover that was near the waterworks plant and was in a neighborhood. I guy in a house across the street called the police on us while we were in the drain. We later saw that there was 3 police cars waiting by the lid but at that time we didn't know that the police were there for us, so we decided to wait in the drain and try to find another way out but the other lids we checked were in the street, so we had to wait a while to see if the police would leave, well apparently they didn't. We found out that 3 of our crew left the drain through the lid but were not seen again that night. About 6 of us went out the outfall, which was on park land by the Mississippi River. After we got out of the drain, we started to walk down the walking path and all of a sudden we were all surrounded by police cars. They said "DON'T RUN, IF YOU RUN THIS WILL BE A LOT WORSE FOR YOU". They also told they had a dog and they used a drone to find us, so with that being said we were doomed no matter what. All of this stuff that happened that night went public and on the news all because we went into a manhole cover into a storm drain. All 11 of us got charged with at least a misdemeanor but originally it would of been a gross misdemeanor for which the judge somewhat worked with most of us on that. The police called it trespassing in the critical infrastructure for which none of us have ever heard of at that time. Everyone except me went to jail that night because since I have autism they didn't put me in jail. We all think they were overly hard on us and wanted to make an example out of us. I just horrible about what happened to all of us because all this was meant to be was a fun exploring time of exploring a drain and it was very bad time for all of us. This was my only time I've been arrested and charged for exploring. This happened in Anoka County (in Fridley MN to be exact), so I highly recommend being very careful when exploring anything in Anoka County in Minnesota because if you get caught by the police etc they will make your life a living hell, so just be warned. From what I've heard from other people, exploring storm drains in Minnesota isn't a big deal. It might be trespassing but not a big deal. Anoka County for some reason makes everything a big deal.
