| | | I recently installed a SUsE Linux distro that I purchased a while ago, and I have a problem. The kernel version is 2.0 (I think), and is too antiquated to run a WMP54G Linksys Wireless driver. Without a working internet connection, I can't update my system, and without an updated system, I can't get a working wireless driver. A catch-22 if there ever was one. My question is, how can I update? And once I update, where can I find a working driver for a WMP54G wireless card? Oh, and I have access to my Windows partition via swap file.

| Sitting on my [somewhat] fat (yet perfectly plump and round) ass doing Algebra homework :\ Anyways, I had a similar problem some weeks ago. I have a Netgear wireless card, and I have/had Fedora Core 3. Now what with Netgear being the assholes they are, they don't make Linux drivers. Bitches. Firstoff, if you only have kernel 2.0, upgrade, please. the latest stable is 2.6, weighing in at around ~20mb, small enough to fit on a usb mass storage device (aka: jumpdrive / usb drive). Linksys has firmware for your driver right here: http://www.linksys.com/support/gpl.asp . Instructions should be included in that package, if they aren't, don't be afraid to shoot me a PM and this can get sorted out. Good day

| | | There's a shell command that shows you the kernel version, but I forgot what it was. What is it? Oh, and I got LinuxAnt, and it made me crash all the time. It's working noe, because I got an ethernet cable that is long enough to reach all the way to my computer. Thanks for your help, everyone!

| That version of Linux sounds absolutely antiquated. Either download a new distro and buy one, but I can't imagine something like what you have being at all useful unless you do a whole crap load of upgrading and really know your way around a Linux system.
