| | | Sounds like what happened where I work. We've had a lot of attrition where I am in the mill. In the past few months, something like 10 people have taken transfers out of the department, into other departments where the working conditions aren't so bad. Usually they're not that bad, I'm left alone, I do my job and I go home, end of story. The hardest part is the schedule because there's so much forced overtime due to bullshit things like nobody being able to cover a slot on one crew or something, so everybody works 12 hour shifts. Anyway, some people have been on 12 hours for months. Well, recently, the company decided to change how we get personal days due to this. Every employee is allowed 8 personal days a year due to the fact we're a 24/7/365 operation and you do have to work national holidays. It's a day off with pay you're allowed to use whenever you want. Usually you fill out a form a week before and it's granted if there's someone to cover it for you or the person you relieve and the person that relieves you work 12 hours that day or two days or whatever. You can ask for two or three at a time, no more than that. The company recently implemented two new rules...if someone across from you in the same classification has a vacation that week, you can't have a personal day that week or if someone is out of the mill that week for company business, you can't have a personal day that week either. Getting days off when you want them depends on who you work for, when you want them and who likes you and doesn't like you. If management hates you, they'll find a reason to shoot down every personal day request you make. I've seen this happen time and again. I usually don't have many problems, my step dad worked there for almost 40 years, Samurai's dad worked there for 30 years, usually I put in for personal days to spend with him, management knows it, so does the scheduling clerk. When he's got a long weekend, I put in for two or three or whatever and I get them. Last summer, I ended up with like every weekend off Samurai had off because I could be scheduled to fill in on a 5 day a week job. You're not alone, even in a union shop this shit's happening. It's not fair, not in the least, but it happens everywhere. Shael
