| | | I probably shouldn't reply to this thread because I am employed by the Peavey Electronics Corporation. However I am employed by the MediaMatrix division, which does NOT have anything to do with amplifiers. All major manufacturers build high quality gear and fscking garbage. QSC is a major amplifier manufacturer. They are also a minor loudspeaker manufacturer. Crown is a major amplifier manufacturer. Just be careful what you buy... if you are buying used, try to figure out where in their product line that model is situated. If it is low end, leave it. "The wrong piece of gear at the right price is still the wrong piece of gear." quoted from someone I can't remember at the moment... For example, I happen to have on a Crown Audio T-shirt right now (seriously). My home theater has two Crown D150 power amplifiers in it (for surrounds and sub) and a Hafler P230 (for the mains). They all work fantastic! However, for the sound hire work that I do, I use pretty much exclusively Crest Audio Pro 01 series amplifiers. I have a 10004, 9001, 8001 (x2), and 4801. I also have a Crest Audio Pro 5200. Otherwise, I have a pair of Crown CT-800 and a pair of CT-400 amps, and Peavey GPS-3500 (x2), GPS-1500 (x2), and GPS-900. This all sounds like a lot of old heavy iron, but get a load of this... I have in the "semi-retired" pile, Peavey CS-1200X (x3), CS-1000, and CS-800X, THAT is some SERIOUSLY HEAVY amplifier power!!! Lots of weight for not that much "rated" power. I tell you this because if you consider where in the various company's product lines the series and models that I have are located, you should note that they were pretty much top of the line when they were purchased. ALL of them have been ROCK SOLID! I've not had an issue with any of these models. "Buy once, cry once." Again, I can't recall who coined this phrase, but it means a lot. Buy quality up front and you will not have trouble in the future. It seems to hold true in general. Posted by mewthree yeah I have a couple of crowns... and even my cheaper one is pretty reliable. I have just been seeing them around and haven't heard much about them... and te online reviews dont seem to be too great. People who are fans of crown specifically wont talk great about other brands...
Have you seen the new crowns with USB and built in digital crossover? Awesome stuff, only expensive. You can set up hardware profiles and stuff too...
| Here is something to think about... "What do you want it to do?" I am NOT a fan of all these amplifiers that "also have" DSP in them. I may just be a bit of an equipment snob... but I prefer an amplifier to do that AMPLIFY. There are a lot of external boxes that can be used to do some very nice and very advanced processing for your amplifiers. From a price vs. performance standpoint, I really like the Peavey VSX-26 processors. They are capable of doing some VERY advanced alignments and the price isn't that bad. Certainly, the VSX-26 is FAR more flexible than the dbx DriveRack PA (I have one of those too...) Anyhow, it is just my preference to keep the processing separated from the amplifier, though there are a lot of manufacturers offering DSP in the amplifier these days. Anyhow, If the QSC's are from the "PL", "PL-2", "CX", or "PL-3" series, I'd suggest jumping on them. If they are the RMX or PLX series, STAY AWAY. Do not waste your time because you can do better.

| Agreed. I used to work in an audio retail store. Unless the customer was insistent on the QSC models, I pushed the Crown series like hell. The Crown XTi 4000's are used currently on the Women of Faith tour I'm involved in every year. My bud "tntrailblaze" is the house engineer, and those amps with the new JBL array series are awesome sounding. They are networked thru the Harman Pro DSP program (PC software) and respond to anything. Hell, if I had the $$, I'd get the XTi 1000 for my studio and replace my Mackie M800 amp (still works, but no DSP stuff that I need). I'll be back this year to see their new rig again...
