Squeaky Chevy 1500
< on 1/26/2010 11:03 PM >
Posted on Forum: UER ForumQuote
So ever since I drove through a puddle on Saturday, my truck has the awful squeak coming from the front passenger side suspension. Very loud when going over bumps or pushing the body up and down, but quiet when moving otherwise. I'm thinking control arm bushing or joint... doesn't seem like a bearing.

I'm taking it to Canadian Tire (Yeah..... I know... but my dad prefers to deal with them and it's still his truck) Thursday night. Say, worst case, what do you guys think is wrong and can you ballpark a cost?

soak the bushings down with silicone oil (available in the canadian tire parts section).

no.
what are you? on drugs?
unbolt the control arm and replace the bushings.
no fuss to it.
or try that which Stepon suggested... the bushings in my Beretta squeak awful in the cold. I just turn the radio up.

I know very little about the mechanics of vehicles and have never claimed otherwise. I am also not equipped nor do I have the time to perform this myself.

I'm taking it to the garage on Thursday and am just curious how much this fix usually costs.

As much as they think they can charge you. Read up on some chevy truck forums so you can go with some knowledge on the repair. That way if they start talking out in left field you can quickly bring them back to the real world. Most mechanics know that even the average mechanical person doesn't know much about that suspension black magic they perform. Show them you know a little and they may know better than to rape you on it. Just say'n

my friend at the local gm dealer gave me a can of cheetah grease, works like a charm on any rubber squeaks, as samurai said, turn up the radio

...sounds simple, but have the ball joints been greased? They can make a wicked squawk on the C trucks when they get dry.

My '95 K1500 has more GM rattles and buzzes than you can shake a stick at. I gave up long ago trying to figure out where they're coming from. After all, it is a truck.

my offer to spray them myself for free still stands, if you want to pay $1779 to have them replace everything else that can't possibly squeak ONLY when the control arms are oscillating, you won't hurt my feelings. it's your money.

step, whereabouts is your garage?

It's currently up for question what we are going to do with it. I've got to discuss it with my dad. But throwing some grease on there to kill the squeak short term is an appealing option for sure.

yeah, im looking at that estimate, looks like they are trying to change everything underthere. i cant believe it would take that many parts to clear up a squeak.

if its really bothering you, go to an undependant tire place, they always have some old guy in the back who specializes in front end, and have them look at it, as well they will offer used parts if needed, canadian tire wont
