VueScan

I recently updated my computer to the newest version of OSX and Epson Scan stopped working. I'm assuming it's a driver issue but I went and downloaded the latest drivers on Epson's site and still had issues. Anyways, I decided to give VueScan a shot. However I am having a hell of a hard time getting anything usable.

I am trying to scan TMax 400 in 6x6 and nothing seems to be working. I've tried scanning at lower and higher resolutions, color and grayscale. I've tried changing the black and white points, brightness, levels, and white balance. This isn't an overly dense or thin negative.

This is all I can get. Is this my scanner fucking up? I don't know what could cause the banding.

That sounds like a possible scanner issue. Some scanners have a notch at the end of the film holder that is used for white balance, if that's covered, contrast and colour balance will be... unusual. To say the least. There's also the possibility that something is really not okay with your scanner. The streaks on the image suggest a scanner hardware problem...

That said, VueScan is a super powerful tool and as such is somewhat hard to use. Print film I find harder to scan than slides since a "Good" image is so subjective. Which scanner are you using?

IT WORKS!

It's an Epson 4490 with the plastic holders that came with it. The tiny holes in the holders were covered by a bit of the negatives. Thanks!

For comparisons sake:
