New Years Eve down the rabbit hole

Over the last bunch of years, I have made a habit of celebrating new years eve by either getting high about the city or getting underneath the sprawling metropolis. This year with the drizzly weather I decided downwards it would be.

These tunnels had been on my hit list for ages, but due to a lack of time I kept putting it off until I could wait no longer. With the holiday, I knew no workers would be present and that the going should be easy. I was right.

After spending what felt like an eternity underground shooting as I made my way towards the TBM, I eventually ran out of memory and had to switch cards. To my dismay, all my shots on the second card, including the TBM were corrupted and lost. Tried to recover but came up empty. After climbing the really fun access route back out, I came up to to find a security guard in his vehicle right at the gate. He left after a few mins so all was well. However, this calls for a return visit!

Thanks for looking, I hope everyone had a safe and happy new years eve, and has a wonderful 2017.

And on to the pics!!

Thanks all! This was a really fun one. Not sure on a return trip yet for more TBM, as I read it's operating 24/7?!

Tunnelling itself finished in July. All aboveground work seems to be authorized from 7am to 11pm with nightly and weekend exceptions, though I'm unclear of underground work hours.

I'm amazed you got in without getting caught. But I guess the fact that the security guard hung around for a bit and left reflects on the lazy security.

One day I got a good camera.

Damn! I really dig the urban/industrial aesthetic of these tunnels. I like the super-low depth of field shot
