I'd try the smoke thing but I don't trust myself to work with the things safely, especially in potentially flammable abandonments.

I'm actually really digging #2. Just add a zombie, though!

To add to this, the American M17 (Of which the M10M is a copy) fits a rather large range of faces as well, and each strap can be adjusted independently, you can also get some neat parts to add to it.

If you're thinking about getting a gas mask....DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU DO SO

Many of the older gas masks ACTUALLY HAVE ASBESTOS in the filters. Over time the filter deteriorates and the asbestos is loose..and you will breathe it in.

You might want to watch it. Soviet era masks have asbestos in the filters and as they deteriorate with age that asbestos becomes lose and when you breath through the filters your inhaling asbestos. You should by a modern filter to replace the soviet ones. Soviet mask's use 40mm mounts, the same as NATO standard so its not at all hard to find filters online.
