I had some free time this weekend and had heard about some mines in Altadena I decided to check out. I ended up leaving kinda late and only getting there as the sun was setting, which made it difficult to spot mine entrances, but I was able to explore one of the larger tunnels in the canyon and look into a couple of the smaller mines. I've heard there are a number of other mines in the area that are less tagged up, have some more interesting artifacts and supports to photograph, and are a bit more challenging to find that I hope to explore in the future, but they'll have to wait until I actually figure out where exactly they are and have time for the two and a half hour bus and metro ride out to Altadena from where I live. I appreciate graffiti art but its a bit weird to me to see tagging out in nature, kinda upsets the preservationist in me to see it on these abandoned mines. Next time I go out here I hope to bring my camera and head out a bit earlier to have some more daylight to search for mines.
PS anyone else take advantage of the free LA Metro rides for Earth Day and get handed a packet of wildflower seeds? I kinda feel stupid writing "free LA Metro rides" since the bus drivers around here never really enforce fare policy anyways, but that's irrelevant.
PPS If anyone else is in the LA area and is interested in exploring these mines/knows a bit about them I wanna get to know you! I just moved here a bit ago so I don't really know anyone and I'm pretty busy with school but I'm down to get in contact and involved in any events.

Beautiful view of thr city. How deep was that water? I also do not appreciate people who tag nature, makes zero sense.

The water was probably about 1-2 feet deep and only filled a portion of the mine near the entrance. Very easy to wade through as long as you're willing to get your feet wet. I also forgot to mention that the trail to the mine begins at the ruins of an old estate which include the graffiti covered foundation and steps pictured.

Not sure when exactly. Just got back to the LA area and heard back from some people who are interested in going, so I'll probably go sometime in the next few months.

Oh yeah I've seen some videos about this cave & the nearby estate. It's commonly known as the Enchanted Forest!
