Any Amazing Stories about your pets? Can your pet do anything special?

The subject says it all.

We picked up my dog, who's name is Toby at the SPCA in our area. He was originally brought to the SPCA because he was eating out of dumpsters in behind restaurants for a few days before the police brought him to the shelter. For 3 weeks, he was in the shelter, nobody wanted the dog. One day, we went to look around for a pet dog. We were looking for a dog that was not a newborn puppy, and was not a really old dog. When we went to the shelter, we saw this cute puppy faced Golden Retriever/ Collie Mix dog in a kennel. We were told by the shelter operator that this dog had been around the shelter for 3 weeks, and he was on his final days in the shelter before he had to be Euthanized. How could someone not want this dog. He was partially trained already, he knew how to sit, heel, shake a paw, and was not very hyper. We decided to pick him up and he has not disappointed.

We have used our dog for hunting Ruffed Grouse (Partridge) up in Northern Ontario. One year, he found close to 50 birds in a single season. Surprising, he did not like the water, and we could not use him for duck hunting. We have had him for almost 13 years now, and even though his health has somewhat deteriorated in the last couple years, he is still the same lovable puppy dog that was picked up at the pound.

What are some amazing things my dog can do?

I am not sure if any other dog does this, but he tends to try to speak (yes speak) to the other family members. When I was younger, he would wait for me to come back home from school and when I would open the door, he would growl at me wagging his tail. It was not a mean growl, but rather a nice greeting. He tends to howl in the early morning as well, just kinda like saying good morning to everyone in the house.

My cat Sukie can sit like a human. She sits on her hind legs so her upper torso is completely vertical, and her balance is getting much better.

My cat Fruit "waves" at people. If you're outside and she sees you, she hurries to get in the window and paws at the glass. It looks like she's waving! Our mailman loves coming to our house because Fruit will wave at him and make him laugh.

Our Cockatiel makes me laugh. He was whistling loudly one night and I scolded him by saying "Not too loud!". He was quiet for a minute and then started whistling again but quietly. He has picked up some more words and I'm teaching him to say "Dang I'm pretty!"

My first Budgie was a green female. She did a lot but her best routine was when I would say 'Kentucky Fried Chicken', she would make puking noises.

And who says birds are stupid and boring?

Had a really good laugh yesterday. My family came up to visit us and my brother brought his dog.

Our cockatiel learned how to whistle for the dogs by his previous owner. (She had two dogs). Anyway, my brother's dog was laying down and the cockatiel started whistling. The dog got up, and went to the cage. The bird whistled again and the dog sat down, looked up and the cage and started whining. What a hoot!

I had to give my favorite pet Homer away in august (he has a bladder tumor and peed everywhere; not good). We gave him to an old couple that live out of town about 5-6 miles in the country. The couple didn't see him again after the day we dropped him off; so i thought he got run over or something.

then, a couple nights ago i saw his picture on the humane society board in WalMart. Homer had apparently made his way back into town and got picked up there. I had to pay fifty bucks to get my cat back, and now he's got a really bad respiratory infection from the other cats he was around . But at least he was home for Christmas. For some reason, he hasn't made any messes since we got him home. (so maybe i can keep him!) And it is Homer, he has all the same little markings, and he's an asshole. definitely my cat.

Two of my dogs growl in a 'good' non-aggressive way. Basically its another way of communication which is usually playing or rough housing, excitement. I think its funny when my dogs do it. It is, just like talking, especially when they vary the sounds they make. They make other weird sounds too. Sometimes tho my neighbors think their 'play growling/talking' is aggressive and scares them. You can tell an aggressive growl tho because either their lips will be twitching or they will show their teeth, also their whole body language.

Poppy is showing some really good personality traits.

The training is coming along pretty good and she is doing much better. We get her to sit when we put on her leash and she does that with no problem at all.

One really funny thing she does is that when we tell her to do something (ie. lay down), and she doesn't want to, she will grumble while doing it.

It almost sounds like she's swearing under her breath!

Would love to do that but unfortunately she's long gone.

Also, Poppy has taken a definite dislike to the ceiling fan. She will freak out whenever it is turned on or turned off. She's settling down now about it but when she hears the sound, she gets mad.

And on a side note, shutterbug and I are getting two new budgies. H-m-m-m, I believe you've given me an idea monster.

I don't know if my pets do anything special. The fish just kind of swims around, and the cats do, like, cat stuff. Does projectile vomiting count as a special skill?
