Looking for music sources?
< on 10/28/2005 3:43 PM >
Posted on Forum: UER ForumQuote
OK all you tech types. I confess to being a little bit older and out of the scene, so I need a little help. I know Kazaa is getting hammered, and I don't know if you can even download music from them anymore. So my question is, where do you go to get the older and/or more obscure music these days? I mean the kind of stuff that wasn't at Hasting's when it came out. I'm looking for Riot, Missing Persons, Kim Phillips, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Personally, I like Soulseek. It has long queues at times (for a $5 donation you get privileged status which lets you jump the queues for 30 days) but I find it to be the most organized and I am able to find lots of music that I would not usually be able to find anywhere. It has been my only source for music for the past 3 years and I usually have no problem finding what I want.

i like it when i use AIM, and my buddies enable file sharing, so i can have some of thier music, and they can have some of mine.

edit: feel free to download from me. im always adding more stuff, and re-organizing it. just add me to your buddy list, and click "get file". you dont need to wait for me to connect or anything. BTW, it is quicker to highlight and download a group of songs, than to download a folder.

WINMX IS BACK!!!
on September 23rd at 12:00 am somewhere the RIAA shut them down... Three days later the community got together and said FUCK YOU RIAA and patched it up, and thus opened winmxworld.com... by October 10th, the network was better off than it was pre-shutout.

There's http://www.allofmp3.com/ based in Russia. It's probably illegal outside of Russia but the prices and encoding options are pretty nice.

You can sample TONS of FREE and LEGAL music at record label websites and at these type of sites, where if you can't find a song you like, you're dead...

I keep a pad and pencil in my car and write down the stuff I hear, and like, on Sirius. I then search and dl from Limewire. I like that Sirius' PDT shows if a song is new. My library is banging!

She has been good to me, no?

Problem I have is that I'm always hearing good songs but never knowing what the hell it is. The idiotic radio announcers do a horrible job of actually telling you what the song was. They usually stick it in between two incredibly annoying advertisements, sometimes even mixing it into one.

I use bit torrents a lot lately. My friends. At work we have about 700gigs of music between all of us so there is usually something there if I am looking for it. There are some bloggers or communities online that also upload albums and take requests. If you're looking for any live boots, try http://archive.org

Torrent site:
This one has open registration on Fridays, but Oink probably is better but harder to gain and remain a member.
http://demonoid.com

If you're looking to get into new music. There are streaming radio sites like http://pandora.com and my favorite http://www.last.fm/user/lexiphoto/where you gan install a plugin for your music player and it reads what you list to and bases recommendations and networks you with others who like similar music. Plus it's cool to track what you listen to the most or how many songs you have played since registering.
