Capitol Iron was a kids wonderland. I go in there now and it is such a shame to see how small the surplus department has become. In days gone bye the main floor also had surplus, The lower floor was a place you could get lost for hours on end. Out back the workers were busy tearing apart old destroyers and other such ships. It was so cool. Just south of Captial Iron and next to the transfer station was an old wooden ship. It was sunk into the mud. I was always fascinated with this little ship. It was later in life I found out it was the last of the old whalers that plied the waters from here to the Queen Charlottes. Amazing how much destruction these little ships did to the whale population.

VMD (Victoria Machinery Depot) used to be where the present day Coast Guard is in James Bay. In the ealry 60's it was all industry around that area. Goodwill Bottling, Cdn. Liquid Gas, Fishermans Wharf, etc. My pals and I used to hang out all over that area, especially the VMD yards. If we couldn't get to it by land we would get in on an old row boat. It was so cool wondering around the yards exploring the work sheds and all. Those ferries looked so damn big when you looked up at them sitting on there slips. What a shame all that had to come to an end. Us kids would have worked in places like that if the city wasn't hell bent on getting rid of industry. Tourism was so much cleaner and neater then industry. Anyway I digress. Once finished with VMD we would follow the water front to the Fishermans Wharf to cruise around the docks for awhile. Fisherman would be all over their boats getting them ready for the next opening. Just a little north and east of the Wharf was a Bapco paint plant. There is a big hotel there now. One of the firest major ones in James Bay. Well in those days we used to deek under the building to play around the pilings. It was great watching all the old paint ooze out of the old wooden floors into the water. No wonder nothing could live in the inner harbour. Believe me, in those days it was a disgusting mess. Typical byproduct of an industrial city. But again when you were a kid it was fascinating wondering below an operational work place where no one else would venture. All in a days work for a young adventurer.

It should be noted here and now that the tunnel thing is merely a small part of Victoria's unknown. There's more than Tunnels in Victoria™. This thread is a rallying point for Victoria's urban explorers. However...PETERMAN and A.LIEN (this is for you) there's a small matter to resolve, re: THAT door with the thingy blocking it and the thorns. Yeah. The activity has slowed down. Doesn't mean it's dead.

And of course...there are us mainland lurkerz!!! Here we sit in wait....wondering when the next south island secret will be told, and when to come visit!! YARR!!!!!
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |

Cherry Pickers.
I'm going hunting for mysteries, cover me. |

Not really...i prefer the cull cherries after they hit the ground....a little moar sweet. Good for making wine as well. you just need to sort through them really really well. Oh and has anyone been to the gun placements closest to Nellies block, near the PMQ's? It's fairly close the the fuel tanks, and it's fenced off...and quite interesting...not to mention it's tunnels!. There is a stencil of JR Bob Dobbs there near the waters edge. (just remember , bob does not smoke the pipe...the pipe smokes itself).

Indeed. I originally believed the Bob Dodds thing was a code intended to alert civilian lunatics that the end was near. Or IS near. Or at least within reach.

I slithered around the point in front of DND residential land a few years ago. Nice beach walk until the old structure, but passable at mid tide. Their was an abandoned looking house on the DND land, I didn't go up to it. Have a vague memory of a small drain entrance. Found a weird message on yellow paper in a little orange plastic capsule. Someone asking their teenage kid to come home. Strange.

I would be willing to help with the thorn removal if only to have the company. I am going to explore that area (within UE etiquette of course) by myself if I have to, but would rather do it with other UE enthusiasts. If you are interested post on this forum, and we can work something out from there

We're all doing fine, thanks. Has anyone checked out (recently) the thing in the open pit by the post office? For those who know, that thing is now exposed, cleared and generally screaming for attention.

Good one K.K. Unless you're bluffing, but what the hay. I'm learning 2 reed teh codez. Appreciate the training opportunity, will check regardless. Okay, will keep this vague on this thread, more soon on our private line. The big project: It's now partly blown wide open. For those with good boots, red gels on your lights, and no fear of rebar, there are certain opportunities, exciting ones, to be had. This is a small town. I'm not going to give you the address. Part of the fun is in the finding, moreso gettin in. I don't know what the security is, big site though, just use your skilz and take your time.

Which? The foundations of S___o or the odd corrugated steel retaining wall? A good hour in there left me really curious as to just what you're talking about. Perhaps a meet up is in order, I have until Saturday morning here...
