1991 Jeep Cherokee "Laredo"- 189,000ish miles.

Engine: 4.0 with no mods other than a throttle body spacer I found in a field. Also, no cat. Also a flowmaster muffler off a F 150. Made 190 HP stock when new, with these mods and miles makes roughly 75.

Transmission: AW4. Stock. Doesn't slip. Fluid smells and looks like menstrual blood.

Interior: Being a "Laredo" I got many options such as seats and carpet. Also a dash board. The windows are manual, like the locks. The passenger side window doesn't go down or up correctly. Very unique considering these are problems usually placed with power units. The head liner lost its cover years back and is now one large jot pad for when I need to remember something. Also, it sheds. The carpet in the rear cargo area started getting a smell that could only be described as "dead dog ass rot" so I took it out. Really improved the noise levels while going down the road. The windows are in place, usually. It also has crazy options like Heat and AC which both work but to go from hot to cold requires either stopping or the assistance of a passenger to move a blend door under the dash.

Exterior: Use to be a lovely green color, and that is one stubborn color as it is starting to show through the fading flat black rattle can job. One day I decided to get serious about paint and started on one rear corner to go a nice bandaid beige color. My daughter decided to help and painted the front corner. With no prep. Or thought. So I decided to just leave well enough alone. Has many "character" dents from rocks, trees, being on its side, porta pottys, other 4x4's and general anger. Driver side mirror hangs more than it mirrors due to being "caressed" by a tree.

General: Lifted the rear to fit larger tires using lift blocks found in a building, they may have just been silver painted 2x4's. The front has a "coil spacer" system that neither coils or spaces. The fenders have been cut to allow room for the 31" Pro Comp Mud Terrains that were $100. The rear brakes havn't worked since 08. The fronts since 11. The rear wiper was stolen in a act of kindness I guess since it never did anything but scratch my rear window. But, I have had it for over 7 years, it has never left me stranded on or off road and is part of my family now. I would defend it like my own children. And I love it. She aint much, but dammit she is mine.

Looks like a hot Audi to me. For exploring in the snow, I take this:

Contrary to real off-roader criticism, is ideally suited to off-roading in Japan. Three up, its taken us all over the place. Nearly 15,000km in six months for haikyo, tsunami clean-up, and radiation monitoring. Could not think of a better car to do just that. For daily commuting, this gets the deal for a cross-Tokyo run:

Smooth, quiet, slow, and comfortable even with two-up (seat is 1.5m long) it is ideal for cruising the crowded Harajuku scene. For fast runs out the expressway and early morning skylines, nothing beats another Audi:

Not the fastest car I've driven, nor the best sounding, but certainly one of the more all-round competent machines. Plus, there's nothing better than a good haikyo and being able to get home before the sun comes up. Not too sure I like the way it nearly cooks anything in the trunk though. The LF-A has it over the R8 for this reason alone. For shear driving pleasure though, the fastest slow car I've ever owned:

Not too special on build, or fittings, styling is quaint, its absolutely tiny, but it can do this:

At about 185cm the room inside is fine, though getting in requires some assistance with squeezing legs to chest - and certainly not as difficult as getting into a 300SL gullwing - the handle is a little large for my tastes, so a Momo is on the agenda when I can source a suitable boss-kit:

I love cars! Neko.

Car: 1999 Volkswagen New Beetle GLS TDI

Engine: 1.9 liter TDI diesel
Trans: 5 speed manual

Leather interior, heated seats, VW-Eibach pro-sport lowering springs, KONI shocks/struts, 17" gunmetal alloys, european VW crests (blue/white instead of chrome) Momo Corse steering wheel, Momo shift knob, HIDs retrofitted into the factory projector units, clear corner marker lights, euro spec rear fog lamp, euro headlight switch, Pioneer deck with USB and GTI style red pinstripe. Have a factory rear wing but haven't installed it yet.

Has no performance mods whatsoever, but I'm averaging 60-64 mpg highway and have 630,000 km on the thing with basically all original mechanical components including the clutch.

I love this car, it still drives like new and I'm positive I'll hit a million km.

Other car: 1969 Volkswagen Beetle

Has a 1600 Dual Port from a '71 Bug, chestnut brown interior, factory steel sunroof. Sweet ass Craig tape deck with one speaker. Originally from California so it's not a complete rot box.

I'm going to put a set of VW-Porsche Riviera alloys on it to make it look faster.

And I have a lovely Empi 3 spoke wood rimmed steering wheel I think she needs installed, too.

50,150 original miles.

Howdy, I'm new to Car Talk, but I like cars, and I like talking about them so here goes:

1986 Pontiac Parisienne Brougham - 256'000 kms

Engine 5.0L Chevy V8, bone stock with a 4 barrel quadra-junk carb. At some time in its life it probably produced about 160hp. Still runs smooth and sounds great. Smokes occasionally, just like me. Starts every time, in any temperature. Has a radiator the size of a soccer field, which means the heat does not function in the winter without the liberal application of cardboard. Thirsty motor, causing me to slowly go broke.

Transmission: 4 speed, with automatic overdrive. Gear indicator needle is broken. This is a security feature as there is a good chance of a would-be thief selecting the wrong gear, hopefully reversing off a cliff. Still shifts perfectly.

Drivetrain: Bearings are going bad somewhere in the differential, causing the car to sound like a city bus. I enjoy the looks I get from people not paying attention, as they frantically look around for an approaching bus. Sucks to be you, people. Get a car.

Interior: Comfortable as hell. Fake wood-grain everywhere. Lots of moulded blue plastic. Power windows all work save for the rear-passenger, which can only be put back up from the switch on the rear door. Power seat works. Replaced the stock tape deck with a pioneer cd player, which sounds pretty decent. Power antenna died somewhere along the way. I had to unplug it manually as it would not stop trying to retract itself. Its now stuck about three quarters of the way down. This is a good feature to have as most of the music that is played on the radio is awful anyway. The headliner is being poorly held up by sewing pins jammed into the foam that covers the roof. The foam itself is slowly disintegrating, occasionally causing a sort of snow flurry of little brown bits when the windows are opened at high speed. This is also a feature, as it separates your true friends from the ones not willing to put up with your shit.

Exterior: Kind of a greyish blue colour? Nobody really knows. It was re-painted by the previous owner, who did a pretty decent job. The trim on the sides is mostly intact, and serves as an excellent guard against scratches for when you try to squeeze the behemoth between two double-parked Priuses. The vinyl roof was hastily repaired by the previous owner with what looks like clear, two-part epoxy. The driver-side door seal leaves something to be desired. Automated car washes of any kind are out of the question, unless you also want an automated wash. Rain storms are also bad news. This is a security feature, as its easier to retrieve the only set of keys once you've locked them inside the car at the mall.

Etc: There is enough trunk space for an entire soccer team, which is handy when I go exploring with a bunch of friends. It has enough room for all their SWAT gear, rappelling equipment, weapons, etc. because we all know UrbEx is seriouz buiznezz.

In short, I paid very little for the car, have done very little work to it to keep it on the road, and I love it very much. And now I have to sell it, because I'm going broke putting gas in it. Anyone interested?

jeepdave, I love your XJ. That to me is exactly what an XJ should look like.

cooper256, welcome, and I love your Pontiac. I'm a huge fan of land barges (my last car that I liked was a Grand Marquis), and if I lived in Ontario and didn't just buy a car, I would be very interested.

As for mine, I can't say much because I've only had it a few weeks, but:

2000 Chevrolet S-10, victory red, extended cab 2wd, 4.3 liter V6, automatic transmission.

Has actual useful interior space, for being a truck. I got groceries in it the other day! It's no dragster, but plenty of power for the highway, nicely optioned with all power, keyless entry, cd player, everything still works, I love it. My only complaints are that the steering is a little odd to me, the wheel travels a bit before it catches and actually does anything. That, and the previous owner appears to have, at one time, put caulking or superglue or something on the extended cab's third door to seal it shut, then never opened it again. So now there's something very, very sticky on the bottom of the door jamb, and every time you open it the hinges scream.

looooove that second one. Not a huge fan of the hella flush look and ridiculous camber, but thats rather perfect stance. Wouldnt dare drive like that in the GTA though...

and thanks Bandi...glad you like it. Definitely a work in progress, but I'm happy w/ it so far. It's the first car I've ever owned that I liked enough to mod a little bit and keep clean lol

is it wrong to say that I like that look?

to the person with the Pontiac Parisienne, that smoke is the valve seals. Every 305 i have ever seen does it.

Since it was just retired from DD service:
1988 Pontiac Fiero Formula - 124k miles - 6/6/2007-2/29/12

Engine:
2.8L V6 - mid-engine; it's the FWD Chevy motor from the 6000STE mounted transversely on the rear axle and re-tuned. Balances things out pretty well, especially in winter. Only spun it out once and it was kinda on-purpose. They say it puts out about 140 hp; not sure what it is now. Only upgrades are a straight pipe and the valve covers + intake were powder coated; they came red from the factory but the paint is notorious for chipping off some 20 years later. Needs a bit of work, been chasing a random miss since last year but had been stalling it until I could buy the new car.

Trans:
3-Speed auto. Meh. It was rebuilt a couple of years ago and is leaking again. On my to-do list.

Interior:
Borderline-mint except for the common crack in the driver-side vent from my knee hitting it. It's your typical plastic Pontiac interior, but everything's laid out nice and easy to reach/read. Factory speakers were replaced with Pioneers a couple years ago which are OK. The radio is from a late-80s Grand Am but is fairly close to a stock Fiero radio. I need to replace it again because the tape deck, like the factory radio it replaced, has issues (hell yes I listen to tapes in this car). The seats came from another Formula wrecked at 5,600 miles so they are almost-new. Carpet was allegedly redone before I bought it and I believe it; the ashtrays are used but there is no smoke odor whatsoever.

Exterior:
White. Plastic. Never dents or rusts! After winter abuse it needs a good detail, though. Wheels are stock; 15" with General Altimax HP tires installed a couple of years ago.

General:
'88 was the only year for the independent suspension; GM axed the Citation parts bin. It was also the only year for the Formula option which pairs the V6 with the coupe body (minus the luxury features of the GT)--a performance-oriented model. 88 was also the last year for the Fiero.

The A/C doesn't work (blown compressor), but being a two-seater it's no concern. I drive with the windows down whenever I can anyhow. Both headlights still raise and lower, though the motors are due for a rebuild as they sometimes have problems when the temperature drastically changes.

I drove it literally through hell and back multiple times, and kept it when I bought my Charger last month. It needs a bit of work this spring (nothing compared to what it needed when it first came home), but it will continue to be a showcar. Last year this car did phenomenal at the shows, and hopefully with its daily driver stress a thing of the past it can only get better from here.
