| | | Alright guys, this is my first ever build thread. I've been on the internet and on car forums for over half of my life. I've had many projects, but I've never documented one. I'm looking to change that with this thread. Over the past couple of weeks, my Jeep XJ has been giving me enough problems to consider getting rid of it. I took it off the road today because it's just not safe to drive anymore. That leaves me needing a new vehicle. Being that I'm a pack rat, and that I had at least one of these cars since I was 14, I know them pretty well and have accumulated a lot of parts, including some relatively rare parts. In this thread, I'm going to show you how clean and reliable you can make a car that has been sitting for years. I purchased this car for $350 from a 3geez member with a dead transmission. Since I had a spare transmission on hand, I did the swap, pulled the car around the house, and let it sit for years. I've moved it around on occasion, but for the past 2 years, I couldn't get it to start. The first thing I did was drain the fuel tank and remove it. The car was parked with a nearly full tank, but I only drained out about 3 gallons. I cleaned out the tank, reinstalled it with all new evap hoses, installed a new high flow fuel pump and promptly let the car sit for another six months. Today I decided I was going to just get the damned thing running again so I could drive something that's fun to drive again. I tossed a good battery in it, poured in a couple gallons of fuel, and nothing. It won't start. There is certainly fuel in the tank, but it was apparently expected to have about 2 gallons or so that's left unusable, presumably to catch crud. I'll get some more gas tomorrow and give it another shot and we'll see where we are. Now for the pics.

| | | Posted by wannabeotaku I have several clean shells I can cut metal out of. It's not a problem for us to fix it right. My biggest reason for wanting to paint it is to get the Maaco paint off and get some real paint on it. This thing has so much overspray on the lights and trim that I'll probably spend a solid day cleaning it off. It's a bit of a resto-mod project. Prices for these cars have gone up considerably in the past year, so I think that they might be catching on with the JNC crowd. They've caught on with that crowd in Japan and Southeast Asia in the past 2 or so years, and the USDM guys follow a couple of years behind. I did get it running this morning. The fuel injectors were bad. I love having plenty of spare parts.
| one of the reasons that these cars are getting popular is that all the Civics, CRX's, Integras and, RSX's have been bought up or are asking ridiculous prices for them. The Accord, and to an extent, the Prelude are kind of sneaking under the radar. Personally, I always found the Accord less of a snoozer than the Camry, had more nuts than the Camry and was way sportier than the Camry. As I said, a friend of mine had an Accord with 300,000+ miles on it and he drove the shit out of that car, fearlessly. The only reason he got rid of it was the body rot was getting out of hand and the automatic transmission was starting to get... funky on the 2-3 shift.

| It seems pretty common for Hondas to be trashed thanks to body rot here in the northeast especially NY. You guys throw salt down like you're the highest taxed state in the NE. Oh wait. They usually have tons of life left in the motor and tranny, but have terminal cancer.
