That the Typ-1 looks like it has flat headlights, and not large Hella-styles, it would have to be at least 1969, or perhaps 1970. Neko.
| Sorry Neko, aside from the overall 50's look of the photo, and other vehicles, and the small windshield and narrow turn signals, Bandi keeps the VW Authority throne. The windshield size of the beetle changed at least 4 times. The early ones have a special character look, lost in '58, when front, back, and maybe? other windows were changed. This photo looks from 1958 to maybe 1964ish to me.

| | | Posted by Kuroneko http://www.pakwhee...pakwheels-com-.jpg Perhaps on the glass. But the '69 had small, flat, headlamps, with a vertical face like above. Pre-69s with round faced, higher mounted headlamps like below. Strike me silly but the one in the pic, vaguely looks like the later lens configuration. The '68 had the same front window I think, but the headlamps changed. Front indicators remained the same.
| Actually, '66 was the final year of the recessed headlamp with the glass lens in front of the assembly, '67 (Your top photo) was the first year of the non-recessed flat headlamps but still had old style bumpers, and '68 and '69 had these same headlights (as did the remainder of all Beetles produced after this) but larger bumpers, but no appearance changes at all in those 2 years.

| Ah ha! Thanks, which, if that's a flat lensed Typ-1, it would be 1966 then! If not a flat lensed, it could be any time, since the older truck was made. No idea really. Non-US cars of course had no glass lens in front of the assembly, as the glass lens was the assembly. I converted a set of early lamps from 6V to 12V and installed the 150W H4s below, and man did it light up the road! Stock, they were a bit anemic. I'll be quiet now, least the Jeepster's brain pops a 40A fuse... Neko.
