| | | Sport Compact Car Magazine did a pretty legit and scientifically factual analysis of common fuel additives some years ago. I actually cut it out and used it as a reference for a high school chem class project. I don't remember the exact details, but the gist of it was: If you want to clean out your engine, drop some water in the intake (as was mentioned in this thread before). If you want some added knock resistance/a tiny kick in your fuel, add your own finely measured chemicals (of which toluene was highly rated). Other than that, they said using a lot of common additives COULD work for you, but also runs the risk of doing some serious damage because they're not proportioned correctly for your specific needs, engine, mixture, etc.
