Since I am pretty old... I can remember the 1980's.

Ok, question for those of you who can remember when MTV actually played music videos... over and over and over the way it was meant to. Best videos from that time had to be Yes "Owner Of A Lonely Heart", Van Halen "Hot For Teacher" and ZZ Top "Legs" or "Gimme All Your Lovin'"

Any of you remember the 80's?

My winamp list is full of 70s-80s stuff. Most of it is Crue. Oh how I love the crue. I love the 80's... I wish I was born a bit earlier into it... sadly, I was born in '86, too young to enjoy it. My years were the mid nineties... not too much interesting music then... it was all just stuff.

Funny you should bring up the eighties, me and THD about a month ago went on a 80's music download spree one night. I just turned 28, so I remember that stuff fairly well. The one video that sticks with the most from that time was Burning Down The House by the Talking Heads.

From now on and until the end of time, "Hip To Be Square" will conjure images of bloody bodies being hacked apart with axes.

I remember that video... David Byrnes big head being projected on to the roadway. That song is infectious, it stays in your head like a virus.

hair metal rocks... One thing I have noticed is that there are more and more shows playing the old 80s hair music now. The stations here each have a couple of syndicated shows (Dee Snyders' House of Hair. Harlan's Monsters of Rock, and The Tour Bus [which features Seth Green and Scott from Anthrax]). Locally, 101.3 Champ FM (www.champrocks.com) has "Hair in My Soup" lunches on thursday from noon to one and the Hard Rock Block from 8:30-9:30pm
I used to stay up all night on Saturdays when I was a kid just to watch "The Headbangers Ball" on MTV. Before we had cable in my town, there was Friday Night Videos on the NBC affiliate... My dad would get me up when he got home at 11:30 (if he was working 3-11pm) so I could watch it.

This is also the same guy that let me watch Alien when I was 8 years old and gave me no warning about the scene where we meet the alien... thanks dad. See ya in therapy til i'm 90

I dont remember the 80s because they ended when i was 3, but i like twisted sister videos from back then. Especially i want to rock, I just crack up when the teacher in that video gets blown up with a grenade.

The 80s were the best decade for independant musicians, particularly punk. I do listen to a lot of the clubby dance stuff... things you'd find on any decent retro 80s compilation. Culture Club, Duran Duran, A Ha, Soft Cell, Bronski Beat, Real Life, yada yada...

I was born in '80 so I remember most of the decade. My brother, born in the late 60's, got me into a ton of music. I remember one of the first songs I heard was "Boys Don't Cry" by the Cure (who I still listen to today). It was a good time for artists, and for musical experimentation.

Haha, I actually love the 80's so much that I frequent this local punk club has an 80's themed night on Tuesdays (they also used to have a hair metal night on Fridays that I went to).

Hell yeah.

Wierd little random story: At my last job, we were having our daily morning meeting and my boss announced we were doing a promotion for some record label who had sent along some free promo prints of some paintings Billy Idol did. He would give only one to an employee if they could answer the following question - "What band was Billy Idol part of before branching off on his solo career?" Nobody knew the answer, so I stepped up and said, "I believe that's Generation X." And I got a free print by Billy Idol. lol

I have Valley Of The Dolls on vinyl. Not their best album, but not bad none the less.

Good job in answering the trivia question. It was a toughie.

"dancing with myself, oh oh oh i'll be dancing with myself..." How could you not know who Generation X was?

I have the video for his remake of L.A. Woman on an old explo tape from 1989-1990... talk about a retro flashback.

There is a station out of Burlington VT that does what they call the "Buzz Bag Lunch" (www.999thebuzz.com) It's all 80's and early 90's stuff. You know how weird it is to hear "Der Kommissar" on the radio some 20 years after it was released?

finally...someone with some sense haha.. I started listening to Billy when I was 3 because hearing his music helped me sleep. Since then, I've been a huge fan and I always wanted to meet him. I actually got to meet him 4 times, once granting me with a picture taken with him. Fun times. Has anyone ever seen his sweaty chest without a shirt on? Rawr.

I was born in 74' so I caught all the 80's madness.

A few that stand out in my mind is

Anything by The Cars
Huey Lewis
OMD
Cyndi Lauper
The Culture Club
Pet Shop Boys
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
Tears For Fears
and a lot of other stuff I'm glad I've forgotten.

Thankfully,my oldest sister became a metal head and introduced me to the likes of Ozzy,Iron Maiden,Metallica,Motley Crue (I remember their 'lingerie' days),stuff like that.
Much Music had 'The Power Hour" after school every day,it was a must see.
