I think so, haven't been to a new dealer for many years but will look at it for fun. 8 speed auto trans, Italian diesel option, but it needs some tank of urea? whaaatt? to be changed every 10K. Auto trans shops are going to having fun when that trans needs work. Would be cool to own for a few years though.

It looks a bit Murano inspired, (far better than the Hyundai look of the new Cherokee) but probably has little interior space, and is more luxury than I'd ever need.

I miss my '88 K Car wagon. Someone should build a simple modern no frills utility vehicle. Like the Element idea only simpler, manual trans, converts to RV, lots of space etc. Ford Transit, with improvements to make it decent on rough roads? Any ideas? Maybe someone should open a Lada dealership. This thing looks practical lol.

All diesel vehicles above a certain weight require it now- it reduces NOx with ammonia since diesel engines run above stoichiometric air/fuel ratios. It's not a big deal to fill the tank at all... basically an extra 2 minutes at every oil change, and the stuff is cheap.

Would the diesel world be a better place without it? Of course. But cars do need to be more and more complicated every year.

Well at least it doesn't need Unobtanium. If it runs cleaner I'm for it. Wish we had the diesel fuel quality of Europe here. Sold a genie to a guy with a 90's Jetta diesel the other day. He's got close to 500K on it, typical of course. Body looked mint, didn't have the heart to ask about the electrics. If I new it was a diesel I wouldn't have given him the extra 20.00 off on the generator. Didn't even hear the diesel noise from inside the house. That Jeeps got it's own urinal or something, lol.

I had an '86 diesel Jetta briefly, regret selling. It did let me down though, they need an extremely strong battery to restart when hot or something. At least mine did. And I was in the woods. Took 15 minutes to jump start from another vehicle. Almost gave up, but it caught on the final try.

Sounds like a tired old Bosch starter or the injection timing was just slightly off- diesels should love starting when hot.

Good to know for the next one, thanks. I thought that when an engine is shut down, it gets hotter for a while. No fan running or coolant circulating. So the metal would expand making it tighter, and harder to turn over. If the pistons are different metal, and expand more than the block... well just a thought. I've unseized a '69 Fastback air cooled pancake engine that sat for years. Fun to break it loose, and then have it run so well.

What'd you use to unseize it? I've had mixed results with various stuff- diesel fuel has worked the best so far.

It was about 1999. If I remember right, WD 40 (fish oil in disguise) and transmission fluid. I broke it loose, but mechanic friend got it fired up when I wasn't there. Major oil cloud and fallout onto the vehicle of slime after the event in semi closed garage.

Sweet car, but it needed all body and some window mouldings. Interior not great either, and it had some rust, but not terrible. Was from California, usually a good thing. Also the early fuel injected pancakes were tweaky runners. If I had property and better finances would have a yard full of vehicles too, and kept this car. It was a standard trans, all the more painful letting go.

I've heard diesel is good for this kind of thing. Also I bought a new short block thinking my engine was toast. The guy took it back for a handling fee of 200.00. Sort of fair I guess... How's your split window doing these days?

Still collecting pieces, but I'm close to having everything I need, even found the proper 25 hp engine last fall, the best part being it's probably the original engine from the car.

I'll hopefully get started on the actual restoration when winter comes again... even though it hasn't really left yet. I keep sitting in it. I love that car.

The hunt is always the best part for some reason. Never ceases to make me happy when I find the power wagon part that I was looking for. Found NOS cab mounts a month ago or so. These things are made of unobtanium, flipped a shit when I won the auction!

I agree- fiding parts for this thing has been a blast and I've met some cool people/heard some cool stories in the process.

Looking forward to the next project after this one is done. Maybe something Italian?
