i suppose you're going to dogpile on me for saying this, but that is a car I would've bought.
Ford had a similar concept back in the late 80's early 90's called the "Splash".

Fucking stupid looking, from the front at least- but a cool idea. I always wanted to gut a Fiero down to its space frame and make something like that.

(And electronic opening doors on a beach buggy? WHY?

Yeah. I see no warranty issues at all in the future.

it was a CONCEPT CAR, you knuckleheads... it was never seriously considered for production. It's what they thought people wanted back in the late 80's early 90's.

Jeep also had the JJ Concept which was simular...

It used the Chrysler 2.2 engine and transmissions from the Omni. The reason it did not go anywhere was the fact it was the last vehicle to use the AMC/Jeep test standard of "Can it drive the Rubricon?" and it almost did except on one steep segment where they had to use a tow strap. This actually sparked a debate within the Jeep-Truck engineering divison where they realized by that standard, even the original Willys Jeep didn't pass it! So they came up with the "Trail Rated" standard which requires you have to have the power and cooling to go up a 60% grade, same as the HMMV.

I understand this, and as usual, GM failed to deliver what people actually wanted.

they are giving the masses what they think they want at the expense of their core demographic... personally, i lost all faith in Jeep first with the Liberty, second with the Compass and then the 4 door Wrangler was just the last straw.

I didn't hate the 4 door Wrangler, but the Compass is horrible, the 2nd gen Liberty had less offroad capability than my slammed VW, and the new Cherokee is about as attractive as the Nissan Juke.

I think it all went downhill for them when they ditched the 4.0

My parents are looking for a new truck, and can't really decide what to get. They'll never own a GM again after giving them one last shot with their current truck, which has entirely fallen apart. (Although, the engine and tranny have been great)

My dad was thinking Ford, but after driving a 2 year old F150 a few weeks ago, I was really, really disappointed. It rode like a tank and had more interior squeaks and rattles than a kid's toy box. I've always liked Dodge, but I keep seeing 5 year old trucks with rust like a 1980s Toyota.

My dad as you know has the ridge line - but he rented a GMC Sierra about a year or two ago when the front of his ridge line got wrecked.
The ride was soooo sloppy, like you'd go around a corner and it'd get all rattly and you'd be worried you weren't going to make it. Good news though! Chev is going to bring the canyon diesel back to NA!

the ridgeline- an accord with a really big trunk.
and sorry but that Sierra was beat to fuck if it was like that. I borrowed my neighbor's 04 Silverado LT extended cab 4x4 with 165,000 miles on it and it drove just fine. And this truck has been worked hauling wood... there isn't a straight panel left on it, but not once did it feel like it was going to fall apart nor did it rattle and as for handling, it never felt that way.

My brother has a 96 Silverado-trim 1500 extended cab. It's a 305 V8/5speed manual 4x4 with 256,000 miles on it... even that doesn't rattle wit HALF the box mounts rotted off of it and two cab mounts that are nothing but crumbly rusty dust. It did thump a bit pounding it over an atv trail, though.

whoopty fucking doo about the diesel... diesel is too expensive where I live and most people aren't smart enough to own one. If there is one vehicle I wish GM would bring to North America is this little car-based truck that is sold in Brazil and South America as the Montana. I've post pictures of it before.

I loved the Ridgeline- I flatbedded a '69 VW Camper home with the thing and it towed it better than the GMC did. (I'm serious!) Plus it used like half the fuel. And nothing rattled or fell off.

I really like the look of the new Canyon/Colorado- I just hope they've improved what's under the hood (All 3 engine options we had here were just terrible), and the brakes (rotors were mounted BEHIND a press in bearing... WTF?!)

Got to love those bastards. up to 2000 a lot of the Dodge 2500 diesels have em. 2 friends of mine own em and complain every time. Good thing they changed it for 2000 model year, doing brakes on mine is easy as pie lol

back to the original of the post... this is the 1988 Ford Splash concept car.
I saw this in an issue of Autoweek magazine and thought, 'why don't they fucking build this??'
