Plus the Toyota will still have a resale value after 6 years.
| oh but of course... always back that old import mantra- 'resale value'. Maybe with my Chevrolet, after 6 years, I don't want to sell it. Funny anecdotal haha for you all... my neighbor has an 04 Silverado 4x4 (5.3L V8, extended cab, LT trim) He bought it with 45k on it in 2007. At about 93k, he had to put a transmission in it. (yeah, silverados of that vintage are prone to that), but since then, he's done nothing to it other than brakes and tires. it's got 165,000 miles on it know, the inside of the box is beat to this from hauling wood and everything else under the sun, the rockers and cab corners are MIA, but the service lines are still in one piece as is the gas tank. It's had so much wood in the back of it, the damn bumper was almost on the road and the funny part is, the goddamn thing still drives and rides like a Cadillac. We took it on a road trip the other day to get wood pellets and it didn't shake, rattle, squeak, thump and it was relaxing to even ride in. THAT'S what I am looking for in a pickup. My brother has a 96 Silverado and this truck has been piss-pounded. It's an old 305 TBI/5speed- 4x4 xtended cab... the cab mounts are rotten, box mounts rotten, inside of the box rotten, but the frame is solid. The odometer on the truck is at 295,000 miles (i called my nephew and had him run out to the pickup). Even during the winter, -20F, that truck that has been sitting since last summer fired right up. Would I drive it very far? Mechanically, yes. Cosmetically, well... i would be concerned about leaving a trail of body parts behind. Point? Yes, Toyota Tacomas are pretty good trucks, but in this market, most truck makes have caught up and are better in some respects. Why better? Because they can be used as a truck. With a Tacoma, you can barely fit a utility ATV in the box and maybe haul a trailer. With a Silverado, F150 and Ram, no problem... we can haul the world. Across the street, my aforementioned neighbors have an 08 Nissan Titan V8 4x4 quad cab... when it comes to hauling the family camper the 8 miles out to the state campsite at Lincoln Pond, its the old Silverado that gets the duties as the Nissan struggles. It's just not 'happy' trying to yank that trailer up the hill out of Mineville and then down the steep hill into the pond. its hard to be try and make a case with anecdotal information because it's not scientific. I am just going by what i see every day. Down here, you never see a Tundra or Titan hauling a camper. It's always the domestics and out of those haulers, most are grossly overmatched... an F150 hauling a damn 50ft travel trailer! (facepalm) For fun stuff, yeah the imports are better. From personal experience the only thing that crawls and muds better than a HiLux/Tacoma variant was an old Pre-77 Ford Bronco. i have nothing but love for those old Toyota 4x4's... who didn't see "Back To The Future" as a kid a NOT want that black 4x4? But, as I get older and I get more practical, the only choice for a practical truck is one from the big three. Oh and I would SO OWN a Chevy Montana!!

| My parents have the same truck- 2 years newer. It has so much wind noise inside at highways speeds you can't have a conversation without yelling, the body is falling off of the thing at an alarming rate, it needs rear brakes and front wheel bearings yearly and now the brake lines are due for replacement. The ride is comparable to a Radio Flyer wagon- unless the thing is loaded to the hilt. The thing is, it's been looked after and not abused in the least. The truck it replaced, now that was a good vehicle. It was a '95 Dodge Ram with a 318- the only real issue that truck ever had in the 9 years we owned it was the fuel pump- twice. It was comfortable, it was quiet, just a damn good old truck. I wrote it off in early '09 in a parking lot. It had no paint left on any horizontal surfaces, but there was no rot, and that truck hauled a trailer 90% of the time it was driving. Seemed to get better mileage than the GMC as well. I think it had about 400,000 km on the clock when we got rid of it.

| | | Posted by jeepdave I've seen em used in light duty work. Couriers, cable installers, and shit like that. But when it comes to heavy duty construction? Only the rare Tundra and even then it's the foreman. The honest fact is they are too damned high on the buy in to use like a real truck.
| Yep, cable guys seem to be the only ones I've seen. My son's girlfriend's dad has a farm, and he bought a new Chevy truck that was made for fleet use, but whoever bought the trucks didn't buy all of them, so the dealer had a few leftover. It's stripped-down, no bells, no whistles, long bed, crew cab, 4WD and I think $25k-ish.

| my mom leased an 04 Silverado W/T... it did have cruise, CD player and A/C even though it had the rubber mat, bench seat and tow package. She hated to part with it, but $125 fill-ups began to suck. She traded it for the 07 G6 I hated.
