lol... and they wonder why nobody can afford a new car or has to take 72 month loans.

edit- I actually have like the back up cameras I've had in cars, especially having little ones. I don't want to be forced to pay for technology I may or may not want though.

How about instead of saving people from themselves, we just make it tougher to get a drivers license, You know have the state / province make sure you know how to drive first.

I have said it before my buddy once told me somthing that made me facepalm... "my traction control light was on, i was scared to drive my car it made me nearly go in the ditch" this is the same guy that said "rear wheel drive shouldnt be allowed, its just so dangerous"

Bubble wrapped drivers will also be mandatory soon.

This is stupid. If people just learned how to drive properly, we wouldn't need this crap that's going to add $1500 to the price of a car.

Best trick I've ever found for winter driving? Turn the fucking traction control off.

Up here in Canada I think it should be mandatory to put in a few hours in a red in winter during drivers ed. So few people actually drive their cars nowadays. They scan sat radio adjust the climate control and program the GPS. I like to drive. Thats why I say to this day the most fun I ever had driving was a 91 Chevy sprint. It was a lawnmower with a heater. No ps and no b.s.. a lot of these features wouldn't be needed if we concentrated on the task at hand. We are forcing these cameras on people but in a few jurisdictions passenger side mirrors are still not manditory...

This bullshit started with 5 mph bumpers and airbags and won't end till nothing is an option anymore. I blame the government for being bought by insurance lobbyist.

For my Dad that became evident quite quickly on the VR6 -its traction control basically just randomly slows it down, and gets you stuck in deep snow with ice under it.

How fucking stupid is traction control? I'm assuming it was mandated by people that have never driven a car before. I'm starting to find it's not even fully defeatable anymore... I can turn it off in my Silverado, but it doesn't make a difference.

With as inexpensively as this can be implemented, I don't see why we don't have it already. They make backing up an unfamiliar vehicle a piece of cake, and make trailer hookups a cinch. Why such a shit-fit over being required to have the driver able to see directly behind the vehicle?

Then again, this is an option I would order on a new vehicle, and will likely install on my current vehicles.

My car already has a backup camera. It's called a mirror.

I read this on April 1, and I thought it was an April Fool's joke, but now that I see the date is 3/31, I guess it's real. Someone on FB posted that something like 65 people were killed in backing accidents last year. Roll cages would probably save a thousand or more lives. Where is the clamor for those?

Backup cameras: something else for drivers to ignore.

I had a Jeep Liberty for a rental in Alberta a few years ago- with traction control on, I got stuck on a wet dirt road with maybe an inch of snow on it. Not even on a hill... it wouldn't let me turn it off completely!

Unplug a wheel speed sensor and that shitbox would go ANYWHERE!

Lovely. One more expensive item to break and it would not surprise me if the camera doesn`t work, the whole vehicle would be shut down so you would have to tow it to the shop for repairs.

You should see the crazy setup required for calibrating a backup camera if it's been replaced. It's probably worth about $10k for a dealership to purchase.

Very good point.

And now all cars will have to have some magical double DIN touchscreen radio with Nav, DVD, etc so it can display the image... so another $1500.

How about my Car, its a 95' IT has a cassette deck, 4 cylinders, 5 seats, a trunk. Thats basically it. It has AC, HEat, No fog lights, glove box (was an option), no touch screens, no gizmos. Just a Car. A straight up car. you could get it with either a VR6 , 2.Slow, Or a TDI Diesel. Reliable, and simple - Its not even fly by wire. No traction control, no abs, no 50 billion inch 16 piston disc brakes.
