the CEL is lit with the charming P0420 code... the everpopular catalyst inefficiency code. Basically it needs an intermediate pipe and muffler. The parking brake doesn't work either. And it's going to need brakes and rotors all the way around soon. They're pretty worn so the ABS light is lit. Yeah, it could use plugs and wires, but it runs just fine. Going down the highway at 72 or so, she's taching just about 3300RPM in 5th gear.
The car has brand new tires all the way around and had the timing set and waterpump done 4k miles ago.

In NY, if your CEL is lit, you can't get it inspected until it's lit and I really don't have the money to fix it right now.

CEL doesn't matter here. I'm gonna run it by her and lean on it. You might have a sale. I just want her to have a dependable car that can handle the weather we get here.

just got off the phone with the shop working on my Subaru... After fixing the exhaust system, the car is still throwing a CEL, namely P0420 or "Catalyst Inefficiency" code. The car runs like a swiss watch, has plenty of power, runs no different with the light on or off. The garage looked into replacing the catalytic converter and are telling me the car has California emissions which jacks the price of the converter into the $700-$1000 range here in NY. Frankly, the car isn't worth investing that much into. What a dilemma. What the fuck do I do? I just put $500 parts and labor into the brake system, replaced the intermediate pipe and muffler and ordered all the tune-up parts which should be on my doorstep momentarily...

Any help you can throw my way is appreciated.

Vibrant cat- cheap catalytic converter that will get a car through an e-test.

O2 sensor spacer- a threaded piece of pipe that spaces the post-cat oxygen sensor away from the exhaust system, thus fooling it into thinking there are less bad things coming out of the cat. They work rather well.

Vibrant doesn't make a catalytic converter for a Subaru Legacy Outback or any Subaru according to their website.

I think their site is screwed up, because I checked VW, Honda and Toyota and got nothing.

'69.... First hot rod I ever purchased that wasn't a project. This one had body and frame separated, all suspension replaced, stroked crate motor. I was actually afraid to buy it. It's never been thru a puddle or spent a night outside. My dogs are gonna fucking love this car.

Pretty damn dry here, I feel we're about to burst into flames. What you need to do is get a rich girl/guy that loves cars. I found one, and married her. It only took me 28 years to get this little roadster.. The El Camino is hers. It will stomp my little red roadsters ass!!!!

Fixed the Subaru the other week by replacing the stuck brake caliper with one that works... brake pads and rotor were replaced as well.
On my way to work last night, I hit the bottom of my street and the brake pedal goes to the floor. We were still slowing, but there was a definite loss of pedal... i think I blew the brake hose on that corner of the car as I was yarning and twisting it around replacing the caliper.

And then, the headlight blows on the Cruze on the way home from work... yay yay yay.
