Did the driver seat first, but just the seating area...need to figure out how to fix the stitching that's come apart on the upper part still.

Did the same on the passenger side tonight:

and just did a headrest:

Maybe by next year I'll be finished the whole car. The first evening was about 4 hours, tonight was about 3 for the seat and headrest.

Costs about $5, but I'm guessing at least 20-30 hours if I do the whole car.

That's cool! I am in the process of recovering some interior panels in zebra fabric for my wifes alpine white bmw (don't judge me).

I've ordered some family tartan fabric to cover some interior details as well.

Good thing the car only has 495,000 on it.....

I bet the transmission goes when I finish the stitching.

Great work! I had planned to take an upholstery class when I was in tech school so I could do my own but the school bared diesel students from the class 2 months before I was going to take it.

Wanna do some military vehicle seat covers? hahaha

you never watched any MTV in the late 1980's did you? Whenever I see zebra print fabric, i think of the video for "Can You Take Me Higher" by Damn Yankees and the weird zebra print half robe Nugent is wearing.

Being born in September of 1989, I should assume no. Most likely Winnie the Pooh.

Here's today's work I squeezed in before the rain...

(Yes, I know it's an automatic. And automatics suck. But the car is 10x the car my Civic was, and I'd always wanted a VW...and the offer was too good to say no over a transmission)

Bonus points for anyone who knows what family the tartan is. No guesses from Bandi or Ricky.

Or anyone that is friends with Bandi or I on Facebook, because that's just too easy.

I've never taken any upholstery classes, and didn't even have the option to take shop class (I went to an arts high school) so absolutely everything I've learned/done is learn as you go. The lack of shop class is the one thing that always bothered me. I thought about becoming a mechanic for a few years, but I just don't think I would want to work on cars every day, all day.

I've also never learned to sew, haha. Who wants to make me some slip covers for my visors?

Why?

Never did figure that out. After years of offering it to all students they changed it to be collision only for some reason.

Finished the tartan wrap, and I've got a couple of headrests finished with the stitching. Bandi and I are on vacation next week, so I might get back to the stitching at some point then.

Wrapping the pillars ended up being a bit more frustrating than anticipated, and I've got mixed feelings about the results. There are definitely some imperfections as the fabric isn't stretchy at all, and I seem to have mangled two of the clips that hold up the middle trunk trim piece. But I figured I would put it all back together and maybe try again at another point, I'm out of patience for today.

I love the tartan fabric. That's something I have considered for the seat centers in my Honda.

Thanks!

I was concerned about all the tartan not lining up exactly, but it seems that as long as the lines make sense with the panel itself, it doesn't bother me. Or at least today
