...they would still suck.

They've sucked since the release of that shitty Black Album. They've been sucking hard since getting all bitchy about Napster (HEY LARS...didn't you say something way back in the late 80's that you used to collect Deep Purple bootlegs?). They sucked extra hard in their treatment of Jason Newsted after he left the band. And they suck even more that they've 'returned to their roots' after selling us on a bunch of horse shit melodic pretty music with violins and birdies and symphonic accompaniment (you know a band has hit 'legacy status' and that they crave artistic 'respect' when they sit down with classical musicians). In other words, they hit Rock bottom (pun intended) in the early nineties and they never recovered.

But that's just my opinion...I could be wrong.

A-Frinkin-MEN!

There are only 3 good Metallica albums, the best being Kill Em All with Dave Mustaine who I shuld add went on to make a killer band named Megadeth who have released more albums than Metallica and they ALL are real heavy metal, not steaming piles of faux-metal.

The only 3 good Metallica albums: Kill EM All, Master Of Puppets, Ride the lighting.

You obviously don't have much experience with toothless 75 y.o. hookers. That's not your fault.

Justice was the beginning of a long slow decline. Listen to that album again (I've got mine on vinyl) and you'll discover a hole where the bass should be. The brilliant producers...Ulrich and Hetfield...amped the drums and guitars and completely toned down the bass. Justice sounds like something made in a basement by drunk teenagers who spent more time on their hair than on their music.

Justice is a hollow album.

If my opinion counts for anything on this subject, I'd have to say that Puppets is the absolute BEST album the band ever did. That album inspired more metal head wannabees than any other during that time. It's 20 years old now (probably as old or older than many of the people reading this) and it still kicks solid metal ass.

But that was then. This is now. When I saw Ulrich wearing eyeliner in that shit-eating video a few years back, I knew it was over for them. When I saw them...I used to hear them first, before they got into making videos...in that video prison thing from St. Anger, I knew they were trying VERY VERY hard to recapture that elemental danger that followed them around when they wrote and performed REAL metal.

They belong in a museum now, along with Aerosmith. They are irrelevant now, and it shows in their presentation, and you can hear it in their music.

Again...my opinion. I could be wrong.

I agree that Aerosmith and Metallica are incredibly irrelevant now, but who has replaced them?

PYellowCard, Billy Talent, Green Day. Shittiest bands out there today. Albeit Green Day was great back in the early 90's, they suck now.

Well...Green Day went all serious in their politics, hired an obviously very well-placed producer, and cut a record that was intended to sell and generate massive response in time for the up-coming US election. In other words, Green Day recorded a 'musical editorial' and was likely sponsored by people who really didn't want Bush etc. back in the big house.

Personally, I like this new Green Day album. They are mature musicians now, and gone are the days of childish antics (well...maybe not as they are or were a 'punk' band) and their lyrics are better, more focused and sharply pointed at the powers of the political status quo. In this respect, this album is perhaps the FIRST real punk album of the century.

Again...my opinion. I could be wrong.

Queens of the Stone Age?

NOW we're getting somewhere. QothSA is a fantastic band. Good songs. Quirky melodies and very frantic time signatures. These guys have really made music exciting again.

Oh yeah...let's thank God for Beck, who is always interesting.

yup yup

To a lesser extent System of a Down, they're just downright quirky and I like that.

I actually just started listening to Queens of the Stone Age... not bad. System of a Down on the other hand I have listened to for a long time... and have not recently listened to. -goes off to shareaza-

But if you're really really REALLY into some heavy shit, there's always Soundgarden. Badmotorfinger is total killer.

See, I think Green Day grew up. Their latest album is actually really good. I was impressed. Metallica tried to grow up, but instead of putting out something serious and outstanding, they sold out. Sure, they laughed all the way to the bank, but still...

One band that I find myself liking is AFI.

I love the old Green Day. Their lastest cd is not that great I find. I saw green day in concert a few weeks ago and 7/8 were preteen girls. The show sucked, seriously.I only went to please my boyfriend.

The new AFI is also a let down I find. Girls gone grey is a joke. But yeah, the older AFI rocks. Everything you hear on the radio these days sucks IMO.

Damn right!, Everything that comes from todays musicians blows.(With exception to Slayer and otehr longtime heavy metal bands except Selloutica(Metallica) Give my Ride The Lightning or some Show No Mercy. Maybe toss some Animal(Fuck Like a Beast) by W.A.S.P, or maybe some Black Sabbath, fire in some Venom and Megadeth and you got yourself a kickass set of tunes.

If Metallica did an accoustic album, they'd STILL probably sue their own fans for trading their music around (coincidentally, this is how they became popular in the first place). They've become such whiny-a$$ rockstars that I seriously doubt they'd remember anything from that time.
