This is hilarious. I myself am a christian, and I prefer to think of myself as being a member of the "United Church of Laid-backedness".

Everything I hear out of christians mouths up here in Canada is about what we can do to help, and how we can console people. Moreover, I heard a nice sermon about how to answer that age-old question of: "How could GOD let this happen?".

This dude has got his head screwed on backwards. Just because there was doom and gloom from the big-guy back in the old-testament, doesn't mean that it carried over into our time. That's what Jesus' sacrifice was SUPPOSED to be for. (If you believe in him, that is).

I really believe that this world is set for self destruct. It's the fact that sin and corruption (really I use sin as a big umbrella to cover all the wrongs and injustice in the world, not necessarily trying to tie it to the commandments and biblical law) have literally crept into the heart of this world. Pollution, corruption, war... it's all got this world off balance, and the world is figuratively spinning off of it's axis. I feel that as a Christian, I'm just here to lend a helping hand in consoling anyone that I can. To lend a helping hand, and most of all to lead by example.

What am I NOT here for?
I am NOT here to shove my beliefs down the throats of others (christian and otherwise).
I am NOT here to criticize and preach in times of trouble.
I am NOT here to use God's laws and pass judgement on my fellow human beings, especially on people who are in need, or who are confused, scared, or feeling alone.

That's just me anyhow. I think there's probably alot of other Christians out there like me, and I just thought I'd speak up for us so that people don't get the idea that we're all zealots or members of the "religious right".

Hurricaine Katrina satellite photos show the image of a 6 week old human fetus:

It's not a fetus. It's the image of Elvis eating a taco.

I'm not of the opinion that God directly caused the hurricane to smite the people of New Orleans. I'm not of the opinion that God directly caused the hurricane at all. God made the world, but *we've* been messing with it ever since. It's a graphic demonstration of the fact that things sometimes get out of whack, not a punishment from God.

Prove He didn't.

(edit: Faith is needed to believe either side.)

'He?'

If God was (is) male, 'he' would have created a bunch of committees first, then sub-committees, to investigate the feasibility of creating the universe. Then 'he' would have consulted a bunch of tax-payer-supported 'experts', then 'he' would have made 'his' findings public (other gods would be interested, doncha know) and then there would have been a highly publicized Ground Breaking ceremony (difficult in that the firmament would not be quite 'firm') and then, after the usual union filibuster, 'he' would have gotten to work.

Now...the bible tells us that God created everything in one grand gesture. Clearly, God is female. Who else could get so much done simply by snapping her fingers?

Seriously.

I've heard the joke. It's slightly funny.

But since we're discussing the Biblical God, yes; it's "he."

But anyway, the point was that no one here was around when the world began. Therefore, it takes faith -- regardless of what you believe of the world's origin.

Not really relevant to the discussion at hand. The argument that God created Hurricane Katrina specifically to smite New Orleans pre-supposes the idea that God exists and that he has the power to create natural forces. It's one of the givens of the argument. It gets really tiresome to type "If one assumes..." before every post.

Indeed, if your rebuttal to the original statement is that God does not exist, the onus is upon *you* to prove that this is so. I was merely going with the assumptions of the original argument. That is the structure of debate.

I think KK just likes to stir things up. She (I don't believe KK is a "he." I've heard that KK says it's male, but I've never met the person so I'll just go with what seems right to me.) seems to do more of that then post about urban exploration, which, incidentally, is the point of this website.

Looks like someone took a logic course...perhaps as a pre-req for law school. How sexy.

The very idea that God 'created' a hurricane for the express purpose of smiting New Orleans is straight out of one of those children's books on religious superstitions.

Now...if Katrina had been the only hurricane EVER to kiss the coastal waters of the USA, then I might believe this (no...I wouldn't). But the fact is that there is such a thing called 'hurricane season' which implies, to me at least, that it is a regular occurence. It happened last year and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that. Hurricanes hit that part of the world every year.

If Katrina posed any real warning to America, it would have to be this: get the fuck out of the way, fools. You live in a hurricane path.

To blame God, which is what this 'discussion' boils down to, is to exonerate the morons who hire horse-show producers to manage disaster relief.

OH...wait: Katrina's warning to America: don't elect any more stupid-ass dumbdumb cheerleaders or I'll send another killer storm.

Now I get it.

Who doesn't?

And I appreciate your not assigning gender(ed) values to what I've submitted to this site.

And I do post UE stuff...it's just not that exciting to some of the people who moderate the board. I'm fine with that.

SMOOCH TO JESTER

Stirring things up is a polite way of saying that I'm a shit disturber.

I'm fine with that also.

SMOOCH TO KATWOMAN

While there is plenty of interest in the UE stuff...after all, it is the purpose of this site...there is also PLENTY of stuff that ends up feeding other discussions.

e.g.

So...I bought a gun.

Burger King : Angus Burger

I could go on, but you get the point.

Even though you did by assuming that I'm female. How'd you figger that?

Worse: seminary. I only hope whenever I get a church I'm as good a shit-disturber as you are. There seem to be a lot of them that need their shit disturbed.

If God really wanted to destroy New Orleans for their filth would he not have completely flattened the French Quarter.

These fundamentalists are driving me nuts.

Well...let's just say that God has an excellent sense of irony. After all...France rejected the idea of invading Iraq.
