What's everyone's opinion on the best movie chases? I'd have to say my favs are:

1. The Driver (Late 70's movie, kind of low budget, hardly any dialogue... has some incredible driving, and a very cool ending in an outdoor wearhouse, between a '73ish Firebird and a Chevy stepside/shortbox truck with stacks)
2. Bullitt (Mmmmm... I like Mopars, but I'd take '68 Mustang over the Charger in this one. And it sounds so good when McQueen double clutches)
3. Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry (Love the Impala, and the Charger. Why can't I find a chick like that?)
4. The Itaian Job (The 1969 version... awesome. Truly awesome. And a true cliffhanger ending)
5. Mad Max (I need a Ford Falcon interceptor)
6. Ronin (Because the late '70s mercedes 500 SEL is still the ultimate getaway vehicle. And the M5 they use in the final chase sounds like my 325is, which gets my mojo going)
7. Live and Let Die (Boats AND cars? Hell yes!)
8. Vanishing Point (The original... remake was brutal AND the wrecked car at the end of the remake was a Camaro, not a Challenger.)
9. Smokey and the Bandit ("There is no way you's from my loins! And when I get home, you is gonna remind me, cuz I am gonna hit your momma in the mouth!"
10. Gumball Rally ("Boy, it sure is a handsome car!" "I wish it ran.")

At the end of Vanishing Point, the original, I remember the wrecked car in that being a 67-68 Camaro too, is that what you meant? I'm sure it's online somewhere.

My favorites:

The Blues Brothers
(Has to be my personal favorite of all, I mean really come on! More than enough actual chases in that. It was originality that made it cool, and the lack of special effects. BB 2000 sucked, just trying to recreate the first one.)
Duel
(Steven Spielberg's first movie, excellent film, someone still has an actual truck from it and drives it around in that condition)
Bullitt
(Needs no explanation...I wish they went over the Golden Gate as was originally planned though...they got barred from doing that by the city, haha)
French Connection
(I think they were trying to outdo Bullitt with this one, it seems pretty authentic too, even though it involves a train...)
The Road Warrior
(That and Mad Max are cool movies)

I like Live and Let Die, because about 80 percent of the damn cars in the whole movie are 73 Chevrolets (Impala, Caprice, BelAir)
GM must have sponsored the movie or something, it's pretty strange when you
watch it.

All of the Lethal Weapon movies have some good car chases in them, not enough to be considered centerpieces of the films though.

Die Hard with a Vengeance has a good car chase in it toward the climax.

I have the movie Sudden Impact, a Dirty Harry movie, there is a short one in that where Callahan forces a 74 Bel Air full of retards in flames off of a boat dock...lol
I still never saw The Enforcer.

Honorable mention, the Goonies. Has the "neat ORV"

An obscure movie called "The Seven Ups" had a really good car chase... big old early 70's Pontiac boat going mano-y-mano versus a similiar vintage Pontiac Ventura (nova clone)

While there's no car chase per se in it, Two Lane Blacktop is one of my favorites for car-based action. AND, I would debate, the ultimate gearhead car movie.

For Bond movie, I'd go with The Man With the Golden Gun. The corkscrew jump may seem a little hokie in the movie, but they actually did it. And that earns lots of point for me.

Already mentioned, but my faves:
Bullit
Ronin (still can't get over the visual of the Audi S8 drifting roundabouts at night)
Mad Max series

Sadly, there's actually a few there that I haven't seen. I'd better get on it.

That was a pretty damned cool movie, agreed.

I forgot about that one! The flying Matador was neat too, especially when Bond's girl pops open the trunk and realizes she's 20,000 feet in the air.

The only car chase I can think of where both cars were AMCs.

I still haven't seen Two Lane Blacktop. Is it hard to find on DVD? I've been looking for it since I was 10, when I read about it in a car magazine..lol

I just realized someone on here has the truck from Duel as their avatar too, I must not be the only one who's seen it...most people I talk to never have.

I suppose the movie Christine technically has a few car chases in it...

Duel is a very odd old movie... it's one of my favorites, making the imfamous 'Insomnia List'... you know movies that you'll stay awake to watch even though you've seen them a thousand times.

Ronin's car chases were just incredible. They didn't look staged, or rehearsed and that's so hard to pull off.

A little off of car chases, but still a 'car movie'... does anyone remember the movie "Hollywood Knights" with Robert Wuhl and Tony Danza? One of my favorites... and of course, American Grafitti.

I love car movies... Christine was very well done... Remember the opening credits, that mean ass engine idling in the background... oh rumbling happy happy joy joy on high octane... I was born two decades too late.

Wasn't that Live and Let Die with the sheriff? I actually never saw the entire movie all the way through.

I loved Christine too, when I was little I was afraid of that movie. Today I just quote it with people who get the jokes...

Duel frightened me too. I have Duel on DVD, and I watch it all the time, somehow it never gets old for me. Dennis Weaver is a riot in it. Someone told me the DVD is hard to find now...don't know how true that is though.

Did anyone ever see a movie with Gene Hackman called Narrow Margin? That has a good chase at the beginning with a Bronco, lots of offroading involved. Unfortunately they beat the crap out of the Bronco and it had like no rust on it...
It's a pretty good movie too.

A couple of obscure 'shine' movies..

Thunder Road (1958) has some good scenes.

And the movie "MoonRunners" has some good scenes in it too.

I used to love all of those when I was little, even though they were sort of cheesy.

I think Smokey and the Bandit should be mentioned...also Midnight Run and how about It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World...

THX1138 also had a short car chase at the end involving some sort of Porsche race cars I think. Been a while since I've seen it. Seems like it was a really brief and somewhat choppy scene.

I never really cared for that movie. It's got some funny moments, but it's not one of my favorites.

I dunno, I really think it's a classic movie. The Bluesmobile is a worthy vehicle as well..lol

Terminator 2 has a few good chases, that's a great movie. the first Terminator as well. The third one was pretty dumb in my opinion though, the hearse was cool but all the other cars were sad and it wasn't very original.
